fter nearly 40 years serving the commercial real estate needs of the Greater Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania, NAI Mertz has continued to thrive and grow by routinely attracting and de- veloping agents and staff that are in the early stages of their careers. A culture of mentoring and collaboration enables the conversion of individual knowl- edge into corporate wisdom benefiting younger team mem- bers and sustaining long-term success. As a company with a strong foundation, we appreci- ate the need to evolve in order to thrive in an ever-changing industry. We find it important to respond to that which is im- portant to today’s professional: loyalty, social impact, a seat at the table and work/life balance. The Wilkes-Barre, PA office (NAI Mertz of PA) is a prime example of how an investment in agents at the onset of their career pays substantial and enduring dividends. Steve Cole, fresh out of the military, joined the brokerage commu- nity in the mid-2000’s and was promptly greeted by the worst downturn of the economy since the Great Depression. Working with Dave Weaver, SIOR, vice president and Fred Meyer, SIOR, executive vice president, along with some help from his brother Bryan Cole, SIOR, principal of NAI Keystone, Steve gained valuable insight, both into the Northeastern Pennsylvania market and how to leverage the NAI Global platform to extend the pool of opportunities beyond the immediate territory. Now a decade into his career, Steve has ascended to vice president, earned the SIOR designation and a reputation of being an honest, ethical broker with the creativity to facilitate the complex transaction. He sur- vived the economic crisis and has become a recognized and regarded market leader. The team of Cole and Weaver (sup- ported by Tila Paris, brokerage assistant) has completed some of the largest industrial trans- actions in the market in recent years, including the recent sale of 827 Sans Souci Parkway, a 225,000 s/f industrial complex in Wilkes-Barre, PA. As a multi-generational fam- ily owned business, the com- mitment to fostering the next generation of real estate pros is in the firm’s DNA. Barry Mertz, A

SIOR, founded NAI Mertz in 1980 and grew the company into a regional powerhouse and one of NAI Global’s top performing firms. Scott Mertz, SIOR, followed in his father’s footsteps joining the company in 1999. The immersive educa- tion in commercial real estate Scott received, both on the job and around the dinner table, has led him to become a leader in the industry and NAI Glob- al’s Top Overall Performer four of the past five years. A parallel story is occurring in our Bucks County, PA office where Jared Licht has joined

the firm as a sales associate and is being mentored by his father, Jeff Licht, SIOR, senior vice president. With Jeff’s instruc- tion on the bedrock tools of the trade, such as canvassing and networking, Jared is building a client base and has completed several deals in the greater Philadelphia area. Theresa Amato, joined the company as an intern, took on a role in the Bucks County office and con- tinued to evolve her role to one where she supports large-scale, sophisticated transactions, having moved to the Mount Laurel location. Blending a

passion to contribute with the freedom to do so without bound- aries is a hallmark of the firm. The company is pleased to have added a young and tal- ented marketing coordinator in Savannah Walls. She will be mentored by our experienced marketing director, Patrick Sweeney and the two will col- laborate and evolve the firms approach to the market and the business community. “There is magic in pairing talented, enthusiastic, educated, creative individuals and affording the freedom for creativity to take flight” said Barry Mertz, Chair-

man and CEO. As part of a role as executive vice president, Fred Meyer serves as the director of bro- kerage and has been instru- mental in giving new hires extensive coaching in all facets of the job and quickly develop- ing them into productive team members. Fred (who recently concluded a transaction in Hawaii that realizes a goal of concluding a transaction in each of the 50 US states) has been mentoring Matt O’Rorke, who started with NAI Mertz as a summer intern and came continued on page 36D
