n the past two decades, we have seen an incred- ible transformation in

pital in King of Prussia, bring- ing quality, convenient care to more patients. During my tenure at Torcon, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of ground-up construction projects that are meeting the changing market demands for convenience in the healthcare space. In December, we began a complete overhaul of an existing 88,000 square- foot office building in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. When opened, the redesigned building will be a new multi-specialty facil- ity for Cooper Health, offering patients in the South Jersey suburbs a one-stop shop for a variety of medical disciplines within close proximity to their communities. Providing Efficient Solutions With the rising costs of healthcare, providers have had to rethink how to maximize services and efficiencies within new construction design. We built St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children’s 135,000 square- foot Critical Care Tower, along with the hospital’s 30,000 s/f Center for the Urban Child. These facilities were purpose- fully designed to provide flex- ibility in accommodating di- verse medical disciplines and

patient needs. Duplicating the physical layouts of treatment rooms throughout a facility is incred- ibly beneficial for medical pro- viders and patients. Medical staff do not require as much orientation and training, re- sulting in a better workflow among employees. Addition- ally, more patients can be seen and treated throughout the duration of the day, due to an increase in useable rooms. a section of the MARE Journal 350 Lincoln Street, Suite 1105 Hingham, MA 02043 P: 781-740-2900 Fax: 781-740-2929 www.marejournal.com Publisher Joe Christman jchristman@marejournal.com Pennsylvania continued on page 3C

cilities has changed markedly. From design to engineering to construction, companies are revaluating their current strategies to keep pace with this rapidly evolving industry. Prioritizing Convenient Quality Care This new emphasis on de- veloping comfortable and con- venient environments has led to a significant increase in the construction of outpatient medical facilities, allowing patients to receive quality care on a schedule that meets their needs. Inpatient care is also ex- panding and becoming more ac- cessible. For example, the Chil- dren’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) recently announced a significant expansion of its main campus, introducing a new 250,000 s/f inpatient hos-
