what I love, to the best of my ability and striving to always be better. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career? My father has been the strongest influence on not just my career, on my life. He instilled in me his work ethic and never give up attitude. He always believed in me. In fact, at age 10 I told him I wanted to be a firefighter, and he said, “You can be anything you want to be.” He supported me throughout my life to follow my dreams. What challenges and or obstacles do you feel you needed to overcome to be- come as successful as you are today? There are times when to step back and reevalu- ate situations. I think when you are very close to a situation you tend to become more reac- tive. In the fire service the first step on a call is to survey the scene for safety. In business I try and keep the big picture in mind. It’s easy to get caught up in the minutia of a challenging situation. Stepping back and taking a look at the situation, keeping everyone’s perspective in mind can be extremely help- ful in overcoming obstacles. Do you feel being awoman is an advantage, disadvan- tage or no advantage in today’s business world? Why? Why not? I’ve been in industries that are predomi- nately male, most notably the fire service and commercial construction. I think there were some people who may have wanted me to feel at a disadvantage; however, that never got to me. Plus, I’ve met just as many who have been supportive. I’ve always believed that you are as successful as you want to be and if you work hard, earn respect and most importantly keep that respect, you can go as far as you want in any career. In the fire service I was lucky enough to have some officers and firefighters around me who never saw me as a woman; they saw me as a firefighter. The same holds true in this industry, it’s who you are as a person and what you accomplish with hard work that are important. What inspiring word of advice would you give to a young woman about to go into the field of commercial real estate or your allied field? Find your own path and don’t ever give up. 

hat is your current position? I am the Executive Director

the Pennsylvania Land Title Association. How do you manage the work/life balance? I don't necessarily believe in finding a work-life balance. To me it is all just life. Going through ups and downs (marriage, children, divorce, losing loved ones, out- side activities, etc.) No matter what you go through or are involved in, it's all part of life. When you do what you love, it all flows together. There are times when your personal life needs more attention and other times when your work life will need that extra focus. To me, what is most important is doing

of the Pennsylvania Land Title Association and the Pennsylva- nia Land Title Institute, which is the educational arm of PLTA. Why did you choose the field/profession you are in today? Over the years I worked in several different fields (concert, theatre, TV & film production; market- ing, technology, web design, commercial construction and events planning). I started in the association management field doing events for non- profits and trade associations.

Also, while working in the tech sector I started planning the events that used my production skills. Over the last 25 years I’ve also been involved in the fire service, as a firefighter and also serving in some operation- al capacities which gave me a

great deal of knowledge about the non-profit world. In reality, I didn’t really choose my profes- sion; it chose me. I believe all of my experiences helped me grow in associationmanagement and let me to attain my current position as Executive Director
