REGIONAL TOUR PROMOTES INTRO TO REPARATIONS TEXTBOOK
NEW ELECTRIC CHARGING STATION ON CAMPUS In the continued effort to move Jamaica towards sustainable transportation through the shift to electric mobility, the Faculty of Engineering played a key role in the Electric Vehicle Expo at the Mona Campus on November 25, 2022. Organised by the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREE) with UWI Mona as partners, the event saw Flash Motors Company donate, install, and commission an electric charging station on campus. This donation opens opportunities for research, promotes cleaner energy use, and provides depersonalised data for university research. The station, located outside The UWI Administration building, can also generate income for the campus.
The Centre for Reparation Research (CRR) has established as one of its goals the promotion of education at The UWI and across Caribbean school systems on the legacies of colonialism, enslavement and native genocide and the need for justice and repair, especially as the CAPE History syllabus now contains a theme on reparation. To this end, the CRR has recently been on a regional tour to promote the text, Introduction to Reparation for Secondary Schools, published in December 2021 by The UWI Press.

The total Global Environment Facility (GEF) allocation to The UWI for this aspect of the SoilCare project is US$1,660,000. The project has been allocated 25 acres at the Agricultural Innovation Park (AIP) at Orange Grove to facilitate the implementation of new adaptation technologies and research.
