Largest single capital investment for UWI in 30 years

During a ceremony at the Five Islands Campus on January 17, 2022 the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, The Honourable Gaston Browne, signed an agreement with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) to secure US$80 million to invest in the development of The UWI’s youngest landed campus. The government of Antigua and Barbuda has pledged to provide funding for the expansion of the facilities to create a modern, state-of-the-art campus at Five Islands. With this agreement, the government has honoured its pledge. The funding provided by the SFD will go to support capital works, including teaching and research facilities, libraries, student dormitories, sports and recreation spaces, virtual technology and infrastructure as well as administration. The campus is a critical part of the University’s 21 st Century access strategy and will spearhead new and innovative agendas within the OAS, regionally and globally.
