Member Engagement
from those that impact the whole country to those that are more specific to the area, it is a chance to exchange views and understand some of the up-and-coming issues. If you are a Member in Dover (or have an interest in Dover activity) why not join our next meeting on 8 October – see https://bifa.org/events/ to register. In the afternoon, my colleagues and I travelled inland to Howfield Manor and were joined by the board of directors for one of the five board meetings that are held per year. Then in the evening the board of directors welcomed local stakeholders from the Port of Dover, Border Force, Eurotunnel and others along with Members. It was interesting over dinner to gain their more strategic insights into both local and national issues impacting the area. And, as it took place the day before the election, the likelihood of changes from a new government was a popular topic of discussion. All three of the events that day where extremely worthwhile and helped towards moving the association forward and providing the sort of services that Members need.

O ne of the things I liked about being on the BIFA board, and have continued to now that I am director general, is the fact that once a year we take our board meeting ‘on the road’ – this year it was destination Dover. We were able to hold a regional
Member meeting, a board meeting and a dinner for the key stakeholders in the area on the same day. The day began with the regional Member meeting, held in Dover, which was lively and engaging (as it always is) and covered many topics
