goalkeeper made two brilliant saves, ending the day for Dulwich. Despite going out at the group stage, the team performed beyond expectations and will be excited to compete against at next year’s tournament. It has been a fantastic season for hockey, with progress made throughout the school. There is a great appetite for hockey at the College and I am excited to watch the programme develop over the next few years. A big thank you goes out to all staff involved for their commitment to the programme. I look forward to next year, when we get to do it all again! ◉

ROWING TRISTAN MAYGLOTHLING

Rowing at Dulwich College continues to grow both on and off the water with ever-increasing numbers of students trying out the sport and some hugely encouraging national level performances. This year over 180 boys took part in rowing, and more than 100 competed for Dulwich College across the season. With the return of overseas training camps, the 2023 Easter training camp for Years 10 to 13 took place in breathtakingly beautiful Bled, Slovenia, and huge progress was made. Meanwhile our Year 9 to 10 camp took place at Pangbourne College, with water sessions at Dorney Lake, the host venue for rowing at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Following the camp, the Year 9 A boat triumphed at the Docklands Regatta in mid-May. For the crew this was their first regatta, and a just reward for all their hard work over winter training and Easter camp. Over 90 students represented Dulwich College at the National Schools Regatta in May, held at Dorney Lake. The 1st VIII had another outstanding performance, finishing tenth in the country to make it three top 10 performances since Covid shut down the 2020 edition (10th/9th/10th). The 2nd VIII had another strong performance with a tenth-place finish, whilst the J16 VIII backed up their excellent Schools’ Head of the River result from March by finishing in ninth place. The 1st VIII went on to win J18 VIIIs at Metropolitan Regatta before being drawn against a hugely fancied US school, Marin, California, at Henley Royal Regatta: Dulwich made a valiant effort but the opposing crew were

more powerful. With several of the 1st VIII crew returning, we are excited about what the future will bring. While at Henley, there were opportunities for the second and third crews to race in the University Temple Challenge Cup qualifiers, which was a great experience for the younger members of the boat club. The 2024 season started with Lewis McCue and Patrick Barton joining the coaching staff. Lewis began his role as Senior Coach, with a number of events cancelled because of the weather. Our first race at Docklands Head saw the 1st VIII win Head of the River as the fastest crew, with the 2nd VIII finishing in third place. There were further wins for the J16 VIII and a J18 4+, whilst the Year 10s per- formed excellently at their first race with one oar instead of two. At the end of the Michaelmas term, the annual December training camp in Seville was a huge success, with the J18 4– securing victory at the Andalusian Rowing Championships. The 33 students on the trip had a fan- tastic warm weather training camp alongside St Edward’s School and Shiplake College. Lent term 2024 began with a number of fixtures against other schools, in which Dulwich showed excellent strength in depth, competing well against St Edward’s School, Latymer Upper School and Radley College. This strength in depth was further demonstrated with
