The Alleynian 712 2024

at home on Pitch 1, with Isaac McConnell driving over the try line and Kit Harland adding the pressure conversion to take a deserved win. This was followed by a game away at St Paul’s with a team of mostly Year 12s. With backs against the wall, their defence was one of the most dogged efforts from any DC team all season, and they returned from west London with a 15–12 win to be very proud of. The 2nd XV put in the performance of the season away at Eton College. Connected defence, uncompromising ball carrying from George Croally and Daniel Lassman and crisp handling from Harry Waight, Arthur Beattie, George Clark and Fearghal Titcomb earned them a famous 57–17 victory against a strong opponent. This was tough and skilful rugby at its finest, and a performance that will live long in the memory for all involved. After a convincing win at home in the historic Bedford fixture, the 1st XV earned their highlight of the season at home to Tonbridge. Energetic defence from Charlie Pick- ering and Matthew Corkum along with strong set pieces from the front row (Amartya Beesen, Freddie Cartwright and Charlie Jarmyn) gave Dulwich the edge against the strong visiting side. The game was sealed when a strong maul provided the opportunity for scrum half Lucas Hec- tor to find a gap and sneak over the line from short range. Strong performances against St Paul’s and Berkhamsted followed, but unfortunately the DC boys came up just short, losing, agonisingly, 15–12 and 19–17 respectively. The senior boys, especially the Year 13s in their final sea- son in the black and blue, can be very proud of the way they have represented the College this season, and they set a great example to their younger schoolmates. At the

end-of-season rugby dinner the following awards were presented: THIRD XV Player of the season: George Tuggey Players’ player of the season: Ariyan Haji SECOND XV Player of the season: Harry Waight Players’ player of the season: Arthur Beattie FIRST XV Captain’s Cup: Peter Ash Player of the season: Freddie Cartwright Players’ player of the season: Quentin Myers From the 12H team up to the 1st XV, the Dulwich boys represented the College with pride and passion all sea- son. Inspired by watching the World Cup, their perfor- mances were befitting of a landmark season in both world and Dulwich rugby, and the memories they made on the field wearing the historic black and blue jersey will last for their lifetime. ◉ TENNIS TOM WHITEHEAD Tennis continues to be a popular pursuit, with more pupils than ever attending regular coaching sessions, and fixtures taking place across all age groups.
