The Alleynian 712 2024

THE SCOUTS The most memorable of the many opportunities given by Dulwich Explorers was our trip to Bulgaria in the summer of 2023. We spent time exploring Sofia, the capital, and days walking in the Rila mountains, including a challeng- ing day summiting Mount Musala. We also visited the historical capital, Plovdiv, where we explored old Roman ruins. Our trip ended at the Black Sea coast with lots of sunbathing and card games. In October half-term, we went on a hiking trip to the Dingle Peninsula in southern Ireland, where we climbed Ireland’s tallest mountain. We walked along coastal paths in and around the town of Brandon as well as cycling down the Conor Pass. In February half term, a group of Explorers spent four nights in Krakow, where we visit- ed the landmarks and discovered the culture of Poland. As part of the trip, we went for a guided tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, which was a gruelling but educational experience for us all. The Cubs and Scouts together took part in an outdoor weekend with a wide variety of activities, such as pedal karts, crate stacking and tree planting, as a part of our badges. The Cubs also did a survival weekend where most of them spent their first nights in a tent and learned necessary survival skills such as fire starting and shelter building. ◉

All three sections of 25 th Camberwell Scouts – Cubs, Scouts and Explorers – have taken part in a range of new trips, learnt skills and worked hard on badges
