The Alleynian 712 2024

our practicals, with popular ones this year including: an investigation into bacterial growth; a thorough rat dissection; and the sharpening of our suture skills in a talk on surgery. After a fruitful year covering how to (almost) live forever, the marvels of genetic engineering and how to build muscle, the BioMedSoc team would like to thank everyone who contributed, and Dr McRobert and Mr Pimlott for their support. ◉ BREW SOC SOREN HAYES-GRIFFIN (13NTC) In Brew Soc we had an eventful year, which kicked off with a brew day when we began production of the cider that we would be selling at the Christmas Fair. This went very well: with the kind and generous donations of members of the public, we were able to sell upwards of £1000’s worth of cider, which helped to fund the remainder of our brews throughout the year. We have made a variety of beers and ales, including – but not limited to – mosquito amber ale, traditional mild ale and stout. In addition to acknowledg- ing the dedicated work of our members, we owe a debt of gratitude to our founder and benefactor, Mr Rowney, who has invested so much of his time and effort into Brew Society. Without his profound passion for brewing, Brew Soc could not exist as it does today. ◉

CHINESE SOCIETY FRANCIS MCCABE (YEAR 13)

Chinese Society has become increasingly active this year, as we continue to further our cultural interest in all things Chinese. Talks have ranged from first-hand accounts of work experience in China, to TikTok propaganda and misinformation. We began our herculean 3,000-piece LEGO Traditional Chinese Garden project with a talk on 3000 years of Chinese landscaping history for Eco Week. For Black History Month we learnt about the history of indentured labour and the personal stories behind the hundreds of Asian names registered aboard the Em- pire Windrush. Other events included our International Women’s Week special on Zhang Yi-Mo’s film Raise the Red Lantern and a talk from Dr Jane Hayward, lecturer in China and Global affairs at KCL University London. As ever, we would like to thank Mr Suddaby, our supervising teacher, for always being there to help out with all things, from organisation to inspiration. ◉

CLASSICS SOCIETY PETR DONSKOY (YEAR 13)

Recent meetings at the society have covered vital topics such
