Deep in the Diaspora— Caribbean Folks: Making the AmericanDreamAgain Since the signing of a Proclamation by then President George W. Bush in 2006, the month of June is celebrated annually as Caribbean American Heritage Month in the USA. During a conversation in commemoration of Caribbean American Heritage Month 2020, Vice-Chancellor Beckles shared his perspective on the contributions of Caribbean people and their descendants to the development, history and culture of the USA in a virtual forum hosted on June 23, 2020. It was moderated by award-winning journalist Felicia Persaud. COVID-19’s Impact on People of CaribbeanHeritage As part of its outreach into the Caribbean Diaspora in the New York tri-state area, The UWI, through its American Foundation, partnered with Groovin’ Radio, WVIP 93.5FM, one of the fastest growing radio programmes in the space, to share information about virology, discuss the impact of the COVID-19 on people in the Caribbean and those of Caribbean heritage in the USA, along with concerns about the efficacy of the newly developed vaccines, and healthy lifestyle practices. The series featured subject matter experts from The UWI including Dr. Sandra Betty Jackson, Professor Clive Landis and Professor Ian Boxill.
