The Hon. Bruce Golding Distinguished Fellow Effective November 19, 2020, the title of Honorary Distinguished Fellow was bestowed upon the Honourable Bruce Golding, former Prime Minister of Jamaica and Mona Campus alumnus, for another five years. Since receiving the appointment in 2014, Mr. Golding made invaluable contributions to university discourse in Caribbean integration and the challenges facing CARICOM. He has offered advice to university administrators in the areas of the future financing of the University, and the repositioning of the academy in the economy of the region. His reappointment will see a continuation of his guest lectures and seminars and lending of his expertise and network to furthering dynamic co-operation between the university, and private and public sectors within the region.

TheMost Hon. PJ Patterson Statesman in Residence

The Most Hon. PJ Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, was awarded the title of Statesman in Residence in November 2019.

Since retiring from politics, Mr. Patterson has been active in university life, participating in UWI alumni matters and serving as patron of the Global Giving Programme. He also established The PJ Patterson Endowment Fund with a donation of US$100,000 to provide scholarships for students to spend up to a year at another UWI campus, to re-create the spirit of regional integration. Through the University’s Centre for Africa-Caribbean Advocacy, among his roles as ‘Statesman in Residence’, Mr. Patterson will support the strengthening and promotion of closer functional relations with the African Union; and the creation of an Africa-Brazil-Caribbean Diaspora (ABCD) Commission to give greater effect to South-South economic development strategies.
