NewPro Vice-Chancellor Appointments

Professor V. Eudine Barriteau AwardedOrder of Freedom

During the period in review, The UWI announced the appointments of three new Pro-Vice-Chancellors. Affective August 1, 2019, Professor Clive Landis succeeded Professor Alan Cobley in the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor for Undergraduate Studies. Professor Landis was previously Deputy Principal of the Cave Hill Campus and is also chair of The UWI COVID-19 Task Force. Dr. Luz Longsworth , Pro Vice- Chancellor and Principal of The Open Campus, was appointed to the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor Global Affairs. The appointment was effective July 1, 2020. Through her expanded portfolio, she is expected to coordinate international projects and programmes, driving The UWI’s global initiatives. In addition to his current portfolio as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic, Industry Partnerships and Planning at The UWI, Professor Densil A. Williams was appointed Pro Vice- Chancellor and Principal of the new Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda following a meeting of the University Council on May 13, 2020.

Professor Violet Eudine Barriteau, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Cave Hill Campus, was awarded Barbados’ highest national honour, The Order of Freedom, during the country’s 53 rd independence celebrations in November 2019. The honour was conferred in recognition of her contributions to tertiary education and pioneering leadership in the development of gender studies and the promotion of gender equality.
