GLOBAL DONORS FUNDING CLIMATE SMART LEADERSHIP

€4.2 MILLION FOR A MORE CLIMATE SMART AND RESILIENT CARIBBEAN

The UWI has been granted €4.2 million to further pursue its quest for a more climate smart and resilient Caribbean. The grant will fund a project titled “Harnessing Innovative Technologies to Support Resilient Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean”. The project spans 48 months and will benefit 16 Caribbean countries. It is being led by Professor John Agard, and aims to improve the well-being and livelihoods of residents by creating climate smart and resilient coastal settlements through a sustainable innovation system. It proposes digital and modelling technologies to improve the prediction of impacts of climate change and natural disasters, and the planning and management of coastal communities in the region. It promotes harmonized policy, institutional frameworks, and community capacity to support the use of innovations and create sustainable regional mechanisms. These mechanisms will support regional and national innovation around climate smart and resilient coastal communities, along with and other relevant innovation.
