ATHLETICS 2022 The Dulwich College athletes enjoyed a positive and fruitful 2022 season, with ever-growing numbers representing the school. This success was amplified by many of our squad athletes’ impressive performances, writes Chris Sewell

to the national final, a feat that has not been achieved by DC for over 20 years. On the day, the boys performed admirably, and their efforts saw them finish eighth overall nationally. Following performances at the Southwark Schools Championship, several boys were selected to represent Southwark at the London Schools Track and Field Cham- pionships in May. It was fantastic to see so many pupils from Dulwich represent the borough and compete to such a high standard. Congratulations to all of those selected, but special mention to those listed below, who medalled in their events. Dulwich has a proud tradition in multi-event competi- tions, giving the boys a chance to experience as many disciplines of track and field as possible. It has been tremendous to see so many boys embrace this mentality through their training, and whilst competing at the Com- bined Events Championships. Congratulations to Orson Matthews (Year 9), who excelled this year by progress- ing through both the county and regional rounds of the competition, to be selected to represent the Southeast of England at the national final in Bedford. It has been superb to see the track teeming with boys after school every day, and it is this team culture that has allowed several individuals to push on to achieve excel- lence. Congratulations to the following boys for setting, or equalling, school records. ◎ COMPETITION RECORDS: TRACK & FIELD CUP JUNIORS: Round 1- 424pts Round 2 – 448pts INTERS: Regional Finals – 524pts INDIVIDUAL TRACK AND FIELD CUP POINTS: Michael Ijeh (Inters) – 55pts COLLEGE RECORDS: 100M Ezra Stuart – 10.9 4 X 400M Orson Matthews, Nathan Firla, Zac Crowther, Noah Ridgeon - 3.36.00

JUNIOR BOYS YEAR 7 (800M) 3rd Mylo Bernard RESULTS

T he season started with an array of indoor competitions held at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. The high bar set by the boys’ performances throughout the indoor season at such an illustrious facility meant that there was going to be a lot to look forward to, come the summer season. The Indoor Sim- monds Cup stands out as a real highlight, with the Year 10 team, consisting of Noah Ridgeon, Antoine Andrews, Oscar Kinirons, Michael Ijeh, Dylan Kalsi and Xavier Wild, securing first place. It was promising to see our Year 7 and 8 pupils eager for the new season, with outstanding numbers at co-curricular sessions each week. There is an abundance of talent in the Lower School team, which was showcased at our fixtures at the start of the Summer term against Epsom and Whitgift. It was brilliant to see so many Lower School boys representing the College at these fixtures and getting the season underway in such a positive manner. The boys continued their success from these meets through to the county finals of the Track and Field Cup. The team’s perfor- mance saw them finish first in the county, setting a new College record in the process, with a team score of 425 points, beating the existing record of 420 points set in 2016. Standout perfor- mances came from Freddie Pickering, Seth Ridgeon and Marly Amarteifio (all Year 9). Having qualified for the regional finals, the boys travelled to Lee Valley for the second round of the national competition. Once again, the boys excelled themselves, beating their record-breaking score from the previous round and setting a new College record of 448 points. A huge well done to all of those involved. Further up the school, our Intermediate Boys team continued the College’s success in the Track and Field Cup, winning both county and regional rounds of the competition, breaking numer- ous College records along the way. Michael Ijeh (Year 10) set a new College record for the number of points set by an individ- ual, with his performances in the 100m and shot put earning 55 points for the team. The team performance also set a new points record for the College, recording a total of 524. Their success in the opening two rounds saw the Inters team progress through
