PLAYING BADMINTON AT THE COLLEGE: A PERSONAL VIEW

FELIX WRIGHT (YEAR 12)

I’ve been involved in badminton at Dulwich since the day I joined the College in September 2018. Since then, under the guidance of Head Coach Mr Kettle, I have thoroughly enjoyed representing the College against other schools and in competition on countless occasions. With Mr Kettle’s expert coaching, the U18 squad has recently seen great success, winning the recent inter-schools tournament held on home turf at Dulwich Sports Centre. We have also enjoyed victory over schools such as Wilson’s, Whitgift and KCS Wimbledon. For me, badminton started when I was nine years old, playing in my back garden. I joined a badminton club at my prep school, after which I realised how much I loved the sport; I now train at a performance centre in Wimbledon. In addition to the excellent badminton coaching I have received at the College, I have been fortunate enough to benefit from the expertise of Mr Hodgson, regularly attending his strength and conditioning sessions, which have helped me become more capable of playing longer rallies and longer games. I also now feel more explosive in my movements. My overall aspiration is to compete at the highest level possible. I would love to go to the Olympics and represent the UK there, but I know this won’t be possible without the hardest of work. However, thanks to Dulwich College, I have been able to pursue this dream because of the outstanding commitment and support I have received, for which I am truly grateful.
