U16
The U16 team, with a core group of dedicated and skilful players, started the season with high hopes for success. With the first two matches resulting in a loss to Whitgift and a win against KCS, the team went into the Lent term with all to play for. Further wins against Alleyn’s and Royal Russell solidified a playoff spot, and the team went into the playoffs full of confidence, as the third seed. Unfortunately, the team could not keep pace with a well-organised and talented City of London team in the semi-finals and ran out of steam in the third-place match, eventually finishing fourth overall. Although this was a slightly disappointing end to season, the team should be proud of their regular season results. The core group of players, which includes Matty Corkum, Daniel Fernandez, Adam Hydari, James Lumeh-Kamara, Igor Sagiryan and Harry Waight, will be ready to make their mark in the Senior team next season.
Seniors
This extremely talented group of players had a season of ups and down. It included 50-point wins and some of the best team basketball the College has seen in years, but unfortunately, they got into a habit of losing close games, which ultimately led them to miss out on the playoffs. During both the highs and the lows, the players have always shown a fantastic team camaraderie. They have developed both individually and as a team, which will stand them in good stead for next season, whether moving on to university basketball or going from Year 12 to Year 13.
Kennedy Wilks (Year 12)
Thank you to Clive Sinclair for leading the coaching at the College, working with all age groups to improve everyone’s basketball skill set. A huge thank you must also go to the following students who leave the College this summer but have been fantastic servants over the last five years to the Dulwich College Basketball programme: Ekow Amoah, Nassir Choudry, Emmanuel Del Prete, François Denaro, Jesse Gyane, Arthur Ho, Monty Mills, Osman Tevfik and Sito Udoaka. Although we couldn’t get the job done in many cases, all our results were so close in score thanks to the overall effort of the team, along with consistently incredible performances from our key players. François Denaro and Emmanuel Del Prete both displayed unwavering stamina and point-scoring ability. Arthur Ho and Dati Kochishvili were also notable with their high basketball IQ, passing and playmaking, as well as their ability to create their own shots off impressive dribbling skill. In addition, Carl Leszczinski was a dominant power in the paint, bullying defenders and making easy layups. Yet, with that being said, it’s the fighting spirit engrained in the team that led to our moments of success. And with new, exciting prospects coming in next year, it looks like we will have even more of these moments – and we can then set our sights on being serious contenders in the playoffs.
