THE ALLEYNIAN 710

The small chameleon can be seen radiating from the bright, garish green ties which are omnipresent on the second floor of the science block “

RS Gym – While most students are worried about their upcoming exams, the relaxed, mellow folk who attend RS Gym are more than happy to calm you down with a quote from Aristotle or Seneca. While others are cramming for their GCSEs, these intellectual heavyweights are more than happy to spend the night before a maths exam reading up on Kant’s Epistemology. Modern Languages – To wear the modern languages tie is to exude culture. The student sporting this tie can speak at least six languages fluently and has travelled to almost every country on Earth. He now attends the society meetings every week to affirm his knowledge of linguistic principles, and to use any available opportunity he can to break into Romanian. Physics – Physics Society is one of the most intellectually stimulating places on planet Earth. Much too intellectual for those who, unlike the majority of society attendees, will not end up as a Nobel Prize winner. These geniuses apparently find learning about theoretical physics and general relativity a fun lunchtime activity, but this is well compensated for by a high-paying job in engineering. Whatever floats your boat. BioMed – The small chameleon can be seen radiating from the bright, garish green ties which are omnipresent on the second floor of the Laboratory. Those who attend

BioMed Society are the future saviours of mankind: the doctors. While those of us who have not memorised the Hippocratic Oath often stare in confusion at the PowerPoint presentations displayed in our biology lessons, the wearers of the BioMed tie pick it all up instantly. Which is good, because their thirst for knowledge is keeping us all alive. Chemistry – The chemists of Dulwich College are an interesting bunch, appearing simultaneously to possess an aura of deep concentration and an acknowledgement of unfiltered chaos. For most students, to take part in a chemistry practical means unintentionally spraying acid on the ceiling, spilling alkali on the floor, and witnessing multiple breakages of glassware. But chemists know what they are doing. When completing homework, they work with such precision and care that you might almost believe they really are about to discover a new drug that can cure the worst of ills. House Colours – He who owns a House tie - is a true Renaissance man, proficient in sports, drama, music, poetry, general knowledge: the list goes on. To have achieved House colours is one of the greatest gifts you can be given. It shows that you have been recognised, and that the world is your oyster.
