the dull morning ache. the empty street where a smudged sun sits like a dark tear. tall lamps running across a blue mural brightly dazzling and chipped, exposing the brickwork under it. low houses fronted by heavy trees and the pavement shrouded in a thin veil of shade. the sun-bleared sky light with gentle swelling clouds every endless stretch.
stop lights with their gentle rattling, along with the silent buzz of a far-off freeway muted.
ghost gums and desert willows in calming arrangement like noted postcards stacked in a falling line brinking.
