Mona Lisa Ali Lakhany (Year 13)

Congregations of people, Day in, day out,

Come to see his masterpiece, Here in this faux, glass pyramid.

‘My Renaissance’ as he put it, would ‘live on forever.’

This is hardly living, really. I’m trapped forever, with This horrid, gaudy frame, feeling me up. It’s been a century now since that dashing Vincenzo, Bold and stupid as it was (but when is love not?) Swept me from my golden, flirty skirting. But I’m back here now. Returned to my Denon Wing fling In my varnished, lacquered tomb, yet again. Their selfish, flash photography flares frequently; I can’t hide my eyes. My arms are fixed in place, Handcuffed in oil paints of olive and cream.

They call me ‘Oil on poplar panel’ ‘His finest work’, ‘Madonna’. It’s Lisa, for Christ’s sake.

I, like my voyeurs, wonder Whether I am smiling, Or not.
