THE ALLEYNIAN 710

HOUSE ELECTRIC

The first live House Electric competition since Covid, adjudicated by Mr Inchley and Mr Eno, was crammed with talent from the Year 12 and Year 13 students, along with some pupils from the lower years. The night moved through a plethora of music genres and eras, from ’70s pop, modern rock and Indie to American rap. Drake secured third place with their energetic rendition of Kaleo’s ‘No Good’, while Raleigh cruised into second with their version of ‘Wait for the Moment’ by Vulfpeck, a song full of soul. The song which got the whole crowd dancing was Sidney’s lively performance of ‘Dani California’, by Red Hot Chili Peppers, with front man Rory Stein donning a bright red face, and bringing home the trophy.

COLLEGE OF ROCK

College of Rock was an evening starring students from Year 7 all the way up to Year 13, featuring a range of different types of music. The evening started with a group from Year 7 playing the Oasis classic ‘Wonderwall’, and this was followed by George Gooderham performing the drums part of Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ with brilliant precision. His infectious energy was then matched by another Year 7 band playing ‘Summer of ’69’, brilliantly capturing the ’80s style. Next came a solo performance of ‘Hey there Delilah’ by Tyler Roberts-Hewitt, who succeeded in getting the audience to join in with the song. Following this was an oldie – or at least an oldie where I come from – Johnny B Goode, with Michael J Fox’s spirit perfectly captured by Tom Bull. From there the audience got a taste of an array of several famous riffs perfectly played by Karam Iqtidar, with references from Arctic Monkeys to Foo Fighters. We were then treated to a brotherly duo, as George and Henry Gooderham played ‘Highway to Hell’, with George reprising his role on the drums and his brother playing the guitar. Finally, the newly formed Other Ones played a cover of ‘In My Mind’ by The Amazons, finishing the night with a bang. In all, this was an evening which combined exciting music and smooth execution from beginning to end.
