Exhibits focus on the land, people and development of the place we call New Westminster. The museum is a fun and entertaining place of learning. Exhibits use objects from the 36,000+ item collection as an entry-point to inquiry, discussion and exploration about the city. Downstream Where the Waters Mix May 24 - December 15, 2024 One part of a multi-year project titled “Honouring Our Grandmother’s Healing Journey”. Curated by lead visionary artist, Nadine Spence, the project connects First Nation communities across B.C. through culture, arts and ceremony to restore relationships between generations. Features bentwood chests, woven blankets, carving, art, and regalia. The exhibition focuses on personal, family, and community healing journeys in a safe and respectful space. Meet Lee Sing Yen Ongoing Follow the life of Lee Sing Yen - an ordinary person who lived in New Westminster for 50 years and endured the consequences of Canada’s historic, anti-Chinese legislation. On July 1, 1923, the Canadian government passed a law designed to stop Chinese immigration to Canada. Over the next 24 years, only 14 new Chinese immigrants were allowed into Canada.
