Melbourne plays host to Australia’s highest concentration of conference facilities, located in the heart of the city, with more than 197,000 sqm of conference space, including the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) – where Asia-Pacic Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) recently took place. Melbourne’s ongoing sustainability eorts landed the city at number 11 in the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS- Index). “Supporting Melbourne as a sustainable destination for international business events is a key goal for Melbourne Convention Bureau. Together, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that business events in Melbourne result in positive social and environmental impacts that are sustainable and leave a legacy,” MCB chief executive, Julia Swanson, said. Priding itself as a knowledge hub for several sectors including energy, health, pharmaceuticals, education and transport, Melbourne continues to win an international schedule of sector- specic events, helped by its burgeoning ambassador programme – Club Melbourne. Since 2005, 126 ambassadors have helped attract more than 155 events to Melbourne, providing an AUD1bn economic benet to Victoria. e State Government of Victoria oers funding support for international meetings, payable before the meeting starts to minimise nancial risk. Tourism Australia’s Business Events Australia Bid Fund Program also oers funding at the bidding stage to oset event costs.
