Healthy: Fall 2024

1. Jump in the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150 yards. After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the water’s surface without support for 2 minutes by treading using only your legs (arms must be tucked under armpits and head must remain above the water’s surface). After maintaining a position at the water’s surface for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must swim continuously, keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good breath control. You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed for this part of the pre-requisites. 2. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface-dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps. This specific test must be completed in its entirety within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Note: When returning to the starting point, each participant must be able to hold the 10-pound object with both hands, placing it on their chest and keeping their face above water. Each participant must exit the water using their own strength (participants may NOT use goggles during this skill). Participants must pass the entire prerequisite test to continue the course. Failure to pass the prerequisite test results in forfeiture of class fees or a one-time transfer to a future City of Dublin Lifeguarding course. No refunds or transfers will be processed once a participant passes the prerequisite test. Certification Requirements: To receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification all participants must: 1. Submit proof of current lifeguarding certification no later than one week before the first day of class by emailing a copy to the Aquatic Operations Coordinator. 2. Pass all course prerequisites. 3. Attend class session in its entirety. 4. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities. 5. Demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios. 6. Correctly answer 80% of the questions on the final written exams. Failure to meet the course prerequisites, attend all classes in their entirety, demonstrate competency in skills, or failure of the written tests will result in forfeiture of class fees and certification will not be granted. If you have any questions before class, please contact Michael Mocsiran at 614.410.4556 or mmocsiran@dublin.oh.us.
