Matilda JR. is the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly and in creating her own stories. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.
Participants must have attended one of six audition times to participate in The Abbey Theater’s summer production of Matilda JR. *Casting offers are sent no later than March 20. Performers must be available to rehearse from 6-8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 12-July 13. Meet the senior class of 1959 at Rydell High and watch Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new “good” girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night,” “Alone at the Drive-In Movie.” Aug. 9-11 7 p.m. Aug. 12 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 13 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
