The authors work at the Children's Psychological Trauma Center. That Center is a nonprofit agency, based in San Francisco, California. The Center has often assembled teams of child and adult specialists to create Guided Activity Workbooks following stressful crises involving large populations. Gilbert Kliman M.D . is Chairman of The Harlem Family Institute and The Children’s Psychological Health Center, both nonprofit organizations. A Harvard Medical School graduate, father of five children, he is Board Certified as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst for adults and children. His books are about and for children, including Children and The Death of a President and Psychological Emergencies of Childhood. His book Responsible Parenthood , written with Life Magazine’s Science Editor Albert Rosenfeld was awarded the Janus z Korczak Prize as “World’s best book for the nurture and well- being of children”. His edited work, Toward Prevention of Genocide, casts light on the psychological of brutal political leaders. The American Psychoanalytic Association awarded him its Anna Freud Prize for his methods of treating preschoolers and its Humanitarian Award. Kliman’s publications include Guided Activity Workbooks for children, families and caregivers in disasters such as the Sichuan Earthquake in China, Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, Floods, Tornados, The Attack on America, The Gulf Wars and School Shootings, and the Covid19 Pandemic. Over 60,000 copies are in use worldwide in many languages. Harriet Wolfe, M.D., is President of the International Psychoanalytical Association, Past President of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, and Training and Supervising Analyst at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis.
