Energy consumption data coverage as a percentage of total floor area, by property subsector

Total energy consumption data coverage from the Empire State Realty Trust operational portfolio, as a percentage of total/ gross floor area was equal to 100% in 2023. (1)ESRT’s total 2023 energy consumed by portfolio area with data coverage was equal to 164,826 MWh. (2)The percentage of total energy corresponding to grid electricity for all property types was 100%. (3) The percentage of total energy corresponding to onsite renewable energy for all property types was 0.0%, however ESRT purchased 121,261 MWh of Renewable Energy Credits from wind power to offset our electricity consumption and purchased +9000 acre forest in Ohio reducing annual emissions 137,185 tons of carbon dioxide.

Total like-for-like change in energy consumption for the ESRT operational portfolio was 7.5% decrease from 2022-2023.

(1) 100% of ESRT’s operational office, retail, and multifamily portfolio is benchmarked using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. (2) 84% of ESRT’s entire portfolio obtained ENERGY STAR Certification and 100% of ESRT’s NYC office portfolio obtained ENERGY STAR Certification in 2023.
