Learn to Play the Ukulele for Beginners
Learn to Play the Guitar Specially designed for adult learners new to the guitar and to the elements of music, this course teaches foundational and continuing skills in guitar technique, music reading, music theory, and listening. The group class format also provides a unique opportunity for students to enjoy making music together, engage in group discussions, and support one another. No previous musical experience is necessary but you must bring your own instrument to class. ROLFSTURM has performed live with famous artists from Loudon Wainwright to members of the Grateful Dead, appearing on more than 60 CDs as well as on soundtracks for film and television. His music has been featured on NPR’s “All Songs Considered” and his solo guitar recording “Balance” was awarded four stars in DownBeat Magazine. He has toured across North America and Europe, playing at dozens of jazz, jam band/rock, folk, and blues festivals as well as at Lincoln Center, and Town Hall in NYC, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. 8 Sessions, starting Wednesday, January 24 (no class 2/21) • 1:30pm-2:30pm • Hoff-Barthelson Music School • Course 12310 • $295
Everyone looks happier strumming a ukulele! This beautiful instrument is especially popular now with adults who want to experience the warm and lovely tones while learning to play chords, strum, and sing along. Students will learn how to read notation common to playing music on the ukulele. No previous musical experience is necessary but you must bring your own instrument to class. ANDREW MARINO holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from SUNY Potsdam. He has performed throughout the East coast and beyond including solo performances in Baltimore and Buffalo. Chamber music performances include the Sowebo Music and Arts Festival, the H.L. Mencken House, the International Day of Latin and Iberian Art Song, and the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York. Marino has won prizes in Appalachian State University’s GuitarFest Competition, SUNY Potsdam’s Chamber Music Competition, and the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Competition. Acting and Improv Learn different theater techniques, including pantomime, characterization, and improvisation through exercises, scene work, and games. Not only will the class be a lot of fun and full of laughs, but students will also develop spontaneity, imagination, creativity, and confidence while working in pairs, small groups, and as an ensemble. This class welcomes students of all levels, from Broadway stars to those who have never stepped on a stage! ERIKA RADIN has been teaching drama and directing productions for over 20 years in Westchester and New York City and, for the past 12 years, she has been teaching drama in Scarsdale’s elementary school after school clubs. She has a master’s degree in Educational Theatre from NYU.
