Site in Downtown Tillsonburg and are proposing a $100 Million Residential/ Commercial development for the property! The proponents envision a vibrant new district, including expanded public space, greenspace and amenities, where Tillsonburg residents can live and access a range of services and businesses to meet their social, commercial and health needs. The BMI Group has also received support from Town Council to explore a re-imagining of the municipally owned Bridge Street – formerly a historic rail corridor for the Great Western Railway – including the consideration of the concept of “streetscaping”, which is being used by municipalities to enhance the look and feel of streets within downtown cores, provide safer environments for pedestrians and help spur local economic activity. A community task force has been created and includes representatives from the developer group, the Downtown Business Improvement Association (BIA), Station Arts Centre, Farmer’s Market, downtown property owners, Town Council and Town staff. The goal of the task force is to enable a rich collaboration with the

“The Town of Tillsonburg is Canada’s third fastest growing community and when the opportunity to develop an entire downtown block came along, we couldn’t pass it up” says BMI Group President John Veldman. “The BMI Group’s focus is on developing this site but we also believe in giving back to the communities where we invest. Helping the Town to develop a streetscape plan for the Bridge Street corridor is something we strongly believe will enhance the Town and its attractiveness within Southwestern Ontario and create more public space for all to enjoy” he adds. As a growing community, Tillsonburg faces many of the same challenges as larger communities including shortage of affordable and attainable housing. Cognizant of this, the BMI Group’s proposed development includes a variety of housing types, potentially helping to alleviate some of these pressures. This project is also supported by the Town’s Community Strategic Plan, which identifies enhanced Development Standards

The Ontario government is launching a new pilot program to explore dynamic electricity pricing and its ability to lower electricity bills for small and medium-sized businesses including retail stores, commercial offices and farms. This new program builds on the government’s commitment to give consumers more control of their energy bills while benefiting the provincial grid. “Keeping electricity costs down for businesses helps create jobs and promote economic development,” said Todd Smith, Minister of Energy. “That’s why we’re launching our new dynamic pricing pilot to give them more choice in how they use and are billed for electricity – just like we’ve done for residential consumers”. The pilots will test alternate pricing structures that encourage participants to shift electricity consumption to hours where electricity demand is low, helping to reduce costs for businesses. The government is also launching a new ultra-low overnight electricity price plan that will be available to consumers next year, helping to support the adoption of electric vehicles. https://engagewithus.oeb.ca/dynamic-pricing-pilot ONTARIO HELPING SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES LOWER ELECTRICITY COSTS
