Junior Secondary Curriculum

YEAR 7 & 8 ARTS

ARTS OVERVIEW

In Years 7 & 8 students will participate in one semester each of Music, Dance/Drama, Visual Art and Media. At the conclusion of Year 8 students should have a sound understanding of the concepts of each art area to help inform their elective choices in Years 9 and 10.

Dance/Drama:

Students understand the concepts of making dances and creating dramatic works, including processes; generating ideas; and, creating movements, whilst using a range of stagecraft elements to communicate ideas within dance and drama. Students have the opportunity to perform a devised piece of work to a live audience for a school showcase.

Visual Art:

Students learn how to use various tools, materials, and techniques appropriately, discuss and analyse artworks, develop literacy skills and form opinions about artists and ideas from different cultures.

Music:

Students analyse the “ Elements Of Music ”, learn techniques on a variety of instruments and learn to play a contemporary pop song. This program is based on the Musical Futures program which is delivered using an inquiry model and ‘ hands on ’ skill acquisition.

Media:

Students engage with examples of classic cinema, analyse them and express and justify their opinions in a written analysis. Students learn about the art of filmmaking and create their own short films which are shared with the class.
