YEAR 9 ARTS ELECTIVES

VISUAL MEDIA & DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Building on the skills learned in both Year 8 media and employing the creative skills experimented with earlier in the term, students work to create a short film. Students, in small groups, plan and create a short film directed at a specific audience. Students must utilise film making techniques on both creative and technical levels, evidencing proper planning and execution of ideas. VISUAL ART Art is a powerful form to express your opinion and emotions, as it illustrates ideas that words cannot express. In this elective, students create artworks with different materials and techniques to help develop a personal Art style. This is guided by critically reflecting on the viewpoints and contribution of artists, using this analysis to inform their own creative choices. This course highlights how Art is a different language and encourages students to develop visual literacy and consider how they can express their own ideas. Visual Design sees students use digital and manual methods to satisfy a purpose or need, mimicking the design industry. Students follow the Design Cycle, which involves: research, generation of design solutions, evaluation, and completion of final presentations. Each student develops a folio that documents their ideas, exploration, drawing skills and ability to justify their design decisions. This subject also develops students ’ skills in freehand drawing and rendering, and introduces instrumental drawing. DANCE / DRAMA Students develop an ability to create complex choreography that communicates a theme, story or idea. They use the elements of movement and choreographic devices to help communicate ideas. Students learn technique and choreography from a variety of styles and have an opportunity to perform in a showcase. Students analyse a professional dance piece identifying the use of the elements of dance, choreographic devices and production elements to communicate expressive intention. Students focus on creating ensemble works of several one act plays across the Semester. Students analyse and adapt formal scripts to design simple, adaptable sets, costumes and props for these productions. They work as designers, directors, stage managers and actors to present engaging and entertaining mini - productions for specific audiences. They develop individual analysis, performance and communication skills while also learning how to negotiate, collaborate and communicate as part of a team.
