FAMILY FUN Where to stay: Choose from a number of family-friendly hotels, many of which are located in Burlington and close to several destinations. Day 1: Get a wild start to your weekend with a visit to the Animal Park at the Conservators Center ! The center offers a variety of experiences for children of all ages to get up close with exotic animals. Tours must be booked in advance. Head over to Mebane and be sure to stop for a scoop (or two) at Muffin’s Ice Cream Shoppe ! Keep the energy going with a stop by Roasted Coffee Depot and a visit to the Children’s Museum of Alamance County , located in nearby Graham. The museum offers a variety of hands-on exhibits to keep kids and kids-at- heart entertained. Wind down the afternoon with a spin on the historic Dentzel Menagerie Carousel , one of only 14 in the world, or enjoy a concert at City Park . For evening fun, take in a Burlington Sock Puppets baseball game.

There are so many ways to fill your days while in Alamance County. So, we’ve put together a few suggested two- day itineraries to make your planning a little easier. Whether you’re bringing a family, have a nose for history or just seeking some outdoor adventure, there’s so much to see and do here that you may just want to extend your stay.
Day 2: Visit our downtowns to explore the many shops, boutiques and dining options. Love trains? Make a stop at the Mebane Train Display where you can enjoy an interactive, seven train display or visit the Whistlestop Exhibit in Burlington (previously Company Shops) to learn about the history of the city and the industry. Enjoy nature with a family day on the water. Take a picnic and head to Lake Mackintosh where you can rent a canoe or row boat to explore endless miles of shoreline. During the summer months, take advantage of “ Saturdays in Saxapahaw .” Held every Saturday from May through the end of August, this event is filled with fun for the whole family. Festivities include music, a Farmers’ Market, arts and crafts, food trucks and more. Free admission. 5pm – 8pm.
