STRINGS Annual Festival

Junior Strings Festival 2023 n The Junior School held its 12th Junior Strings Festival last week on Friday 28 April in the Junior School Hall. We had more boys than ever participating this year with a total of 45 individual performances, and one boy playing two instruments in different classes. Boys from Years 3 to 6 entered for the Festival across six classes performing music ranging from beginner to advanced level, from the early Baroque to the very modern music and playing a wide range of instruments, including violin, viola, cello, double bass, classical and acoustic guitar. And every single person played well and with confidence. It was wonderful to hear! The Head of Academic Music, Ms Lucy Morrell, adjudicated all the Classes and took special care to comment on every boy’s performance, giving helpful thoughts and advice on how they might improve their playing even further. I would like to thank her for giving of her time and musicianship for this very special occasion. I would also like to thank Ms Morrell for her expert accompanying of the boys for the Winners’ Concert. The Caroline Barnes Music Cup, which is for the boy who shows the most promise during the course of the Festival, was awarded this year to Krwz who won Class 2 and who is still only in Year 3. At the end of each Class, prizes and certificates were awarded, and the whole Festival culminated with a Winners’ Concert after school.
