Junior Alleynian 2023

SKI TRIP

n After being on hiatus since 2019, it was so exciting to have the Junior School Ski Trip return this year, and what a brilliant trip it was! In the first week of the Easter holidays, 56 pupils from Years 5 and 6 and seven staff spent a fantastic week skiing in the resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Austria. After meeting our ski instructors for the week, the boys embarked on six days of incredible skiing. The resort was full of exciting trails ranging from beginner slopes to black runs, which many of the boys tackled by the end of the trip. It was great to have some fresh snow on the first few days of skiing, and then we enjoyed glorious blue skies and sunshine for the second half of the week. All five groups made outstanding progress with their skiing and enjoyed exploring different parts of the mountains and skiing amongst some stunning scenery. We were so proud of them all, and they showed impressive resilience and determination, even when their legs were getting tired. A particular highlight for the boys was going to the snow parks and fun slopes where they could ski through tunnels, go over jumps, and try to set off the speed siren! After action-packed days on the slopes, the fun continued with a range of evening activities, including a quiz, movie night, and swimming. A particular hit was the traditional Austrian Tyrolean evening. The boys were queuing to try out the Alpine horn, and we were all up on our feet dancing. The final evening was particularly special. Following a delicious meal in a pizza restaurant, each teacher presented the boys in their group with a certificate and highlighted their individual achievements from the week.

We returned to the South Gravels on Saturday evening exhausted but all very much on a high from a magnificent week.

I would like to thank all the children and staff for such a hugely successful and enjoyable trip. I’m sure we will all hold on to those memories for many years.
