Walking Tour: Farley Post Office and Penn Station's New Moynihan Train Hall The 1912 James A. Farley Post Office is one of the last vestiges of McKim, Mead, & White’s architectural designs in the Penn Station neighborhood. See how this beaux arts beauty is being painstakingly restored to its former glory, and how the rest of the building was repurposed as a new, modern train hall, honoring the original Penn Station. GINNY POLEMAN is a graduate of Cornell University, a trained docent for the Municipal Art Society’s official Grand Central Terminal tour, as well as a trained educational guide for 4th through 12th graders at Manhattan’s largest art museum. Gilded Age Mansions of the Upper East Side Explore the Gilded Age mansions of Manhattan that are still standing and a few that have been unceremoniously demolished, all situated in the upscale Upper East Side off Fifth Avenue. Through vintage and contemporary images, visit homes built for recognizable names such as Vanderbilt, Astor, Roosevelt, and Tiffany, as well as some designed by notable architects such as C.P.H. Gilbert, Stanford White, Ogden Codman, Jr., and the New York Public Library’s architects, Carrère & Hastings. Hear the stories of the tycoons of the industrial age, view vintage photographs, and compare them to today’s view of the Upper East Side neighborhood.
