Walking Tour: Roosevelt Island Explore this mostly residential island in the East River. Tour begins with a tram ride from Manhattan to take in the view from this unique form of transportation. Then board the free Roosevelt Island Red Bus for the short trip to the north end of the island to see the Octagon, the Lighthouse, and the newly installed Nellie Bly sculptures. Head to the southern end of the island for the very modern Cornell Tech campus, the only landmarked ruins in NYC, and Four Freedoms Park, the moving and meditative national monument to Franklin Roosevelt.
