Drawing Following an interdisciplinary approach from a wide range of artistic traditions, use varied materials (pencil, charcoal, markers, Chinese brush, pen and ink) to draw from observation and imagination. Through demonstrations, learn how to use light and dark values to bring your subjects to life. Explore various drawing techniques to enhance and develop your individual skill and your satisfaction. Class is suitable for all levels. ANTONIA BAROLINI-ALVAREZ is a painter and draftsperson working in watercolor, oil, acrylic, marker, colored pencil, as well as oil and chalk pastel. She received a BA from Bard College where she majored in studio art and minored in literature and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She was twice awarded the Bard Fund for Visual Learning Grant and, while at the Academy, the Terra Foundation’s Giverny Summer Residency. Her work has appeared in various group shows in New York City and Poughkeepsie. Deep Dive into Drawing For a greater understanding of drawing, this class features an individualized approach to determine the level and goals of each student. Class will cover structure, volume, perspective, and tonal range, while examining master drawings for inspiration and aspiration. Work on a still life, a self-portrait, and a final assignment to be determined on an individual basis. This class is suitable for students with some experience drawing who want to develop a deeper understanding of drawing techniques. See website for materials list. CHRISTIAN B. KUNZE graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. Kunze has exhibited his fine arts in many solo and group shows in New York City, Westchester County, and lower Connecticut, showcasing his paintings and illustrations. For over a decade, he has been teaching drawing, oil painting, watercolors, and other arts classes in local Westchester art schools. He has also had a successful career in advertising. Portrait Drawing Learn classical techniques for accurately drawing realistic human figures with spirit. Instruction will prioritize gesture, structure, composition, and the likeness of the model. Through demos and critiques, students will focus on line, form, measuring, linear drawing, value compression, and negative space to create a dynamic portrait. Along the way, hone the skills that apply to drawing people, landscapes, and more for sketchbooks and other projects in the future. MAGGIE O'KEEFE is a New York based artist, classically trained in drawing and painting and works in graphite, oil paint, colored pencil, and watercolor. Recent clients include the New Republic, the Boston Globe, Howler Magazine, and Kristof Farms. She received her BFA from Cornell University in 2019 and studied at the Art Students League of New York. She is an award-winning junior member at the Salmagundi Club, received the 2022 Harvey and Lois Dinnerstein Grant for Realism, was a finalist for the 2021 Portrait Society Future Generation Competition, and has been awarded many other honors for her artwork. 4 Sessions, starting Tuesday, April 2 (no class 4/23) starting Tuesday, May 7 • 1:00pm-2:30pm • Westchester Reform Temple • Course 12484 • $140
