Edward Hopper, Reginald Marsh, George Bellows, the New York of Dreams and Reality As America transitioned from the Gilded Age of the late 1800s into the new realities of the twentieth century, painters like Edward Hopper, Reginald Marsh, and George Bellows presented a different view of American life painting scenes of New York as immigrants who populated the lower East Side, the neon glitter and sideshow spectacles of Coney Island’s boardwalk, and the urban landscape's beauty and isolation. View iconic paintings of these American masters, learn their biographic details, and see videos that capture a new realism in American art. From rural landscapes to vivid seascapes, artists like Eastman Johnson and Thomas Eakins joined Homer in portraying a post Civil War America in a wide range of iconic works that present a uniquely American experience during this transformative era.
