man instruments to find this dear child continues to use them to work out His plan concerning her. BLASPHEMOUS BUSINESS The San Francisco Chronicle contains the following concerning a Roman Cath olic “ celebration of the Holy Ghost.” The wonder is that the Holy Ghost so blasphemed and insulted does not strike dead those who engage in such things. Miss Vangie Costa has been chosen queen for the Holy Ghost celebration to be held here next Saturday. It is the purpose of St. John’s Lodge members, under whose direction the celebration will be given, to surpass in magnitude any similar event in the east bay cities so far this year. The. festival will open on Saturday evening with a band concert and a dis play of fireworks, followed by a dance on the festival grounds on Orchard Avenue. On Sunday morning there will be a parade at 9 o’clock, in which the queen and her maids of honor will ap pear, also the U. P. E. C. drill team; girls dressed to represent the allied na tions; Boy Scout companies and mem bers of twelve lodges of the I. D. E. S. order. The procession will end at St. Leander’s Church, where high mass will be celebrated. After mass the parade will re-form and will pass through the city to the festival grounds, where a barbecue will be held. Six beeves have been donated for the barbecue by the Portuguese dairymen. After the bar becue there will be an auction of dona tions by the people, including an as sortment of cakes and fruits, twelve calves, four pigs, fifty chickens and twenty rabbits. •*1% ^1% a gn? Hunger For Souls A woman moving to a new town, where the Word of God is neither preached nor taught, said: “ This year s study has given me a great hunger for souls, and I am going to start a Bible class and at least give out, as best I can, what I have learned in this class. We need to pra,y for such ones. Making Use of the Bible One young woman is praising the Lord that she has learned how to read her Bible and use it in dealing with young girls that she is constantly brought in contact with. She is prais ing the Lord that Jesus is the Truth, and the Word stands out prominently now as vital living truth. Seeking the Straying One From a city in a middle-west state there came to this coast a young woman who came, as do many other young women, to find employment in this fa vored clime. She was a professing _ Christian and a member of a certain denomination in her home city, and was fortunate in having left behind her. Christian friends who did not cease to be interested in her welfare. At inter vals word was carried back to these friends of a careless life, of conduct unbecoming in one who bore the name of a Christian. Fearing the girl might slip from under all Christian influence and enter a life of sin, a letter was written by a leader in her denomina tion to a prominent minister in a city near which the girl was located, ap pealing for help for her at this time of crisis in her life. The letter contained the address of the girl in the adjoining town, but no name was given. It is always a delicate task to be sent to one who needs help, and make wise and tactful approach, but when a work er is sent out to find a stranger with out even the knowledge of her name, the task is doubly difficult. But it was the Lord Jesus who was seeking this straying child and so it came to pass that she was quickly and easily found, and since He so longed for her, He had given her a heart of longing for Christian companionship and a dissat isfaction with the careless' life she had been living. Soon her Sunday employ ment was abandoned and she was found in a Sunday School class of young women eagerly studying the Word of God, and her church letter was placed in the church to which she now gives faithful attendance.
