King's Business - 1920-10

THE K I N G ' S BUS I NE S S shores where these sights are so famil iar.) Soon after Jesus was baptized He began the work which He came to do, and first He began to look for some men to be His helpers. One day He was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and He saw a boat dancing on the blue waves with two men in it catching fish with a net. There were lots of fish in the sea and these men caught the fish and sold them for a living. One of the men in the boat was named Peter, and the other was his brother Andrew1, and as Jesus passed by He called to these men, and what do you think He said to them? Here is what He said: “ Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” Clara, do you think Jesus meant to catch men in a net like fish? No, He meant He would teach the two men, Peter and his brother Andrew, how to bring men to Him (Jesus). He called this bring ing men to Himself, fishing for men. This was much better than fishing for fish, for the men who came to Jesus would live forever, while the fish would soon be gone. . Now we have learned the names of the first two helpers Jesus chose, Peter and Andrew, ' his brother . Now, there are three walking along the shore, Jesus and his •two helpers, and pretty soon they came to another boat with some men who had been fishing and the net in which they caught the fish was torn, so these men were mending their net. These two men were’ brothers and were with their father, and their names were James and John, and Jesus also' called them and they left the boat and came and followed Jesus. Now Jesus saw how well Peter and Andrew were doing in catching fish, and how well James and John were mending the net, and He knew they were the kind of men He wanted to be His helpers. You see Jesus did not choose any one to help Him who did not do their work well, and He is watching us in all we do

to see whether we are doing our work well, so when He needs helpers He will know whether we can do the work in a way that will be pleasing to Him. How many brothers did Jesus call first? Two, Peter and Andrew. How many did He call the second time? Two again, James and John, and they were - brothers also. We will say these four names over again, so we will remem ber the names of the first four helpers Jesus chose. (That is a good time to teach the first verse of Song giving names of disciples.) Jesus had disciples twelve, And the Bible tells their names; First the fishers four He called, Peter, Andrew, John and James. These four fishermen did just what our memory verse tells us. “ They left all and followed Him.” Let us see how many of us are going to follow Jesus in all we do in our work or in our play, at home or wherever we may be. To follow Jesus means we will become fishers for other boys and girls, and do as Jesus tells us in His word, the Bible. Closing Prayer. Dear Lord Jesus we thank thee for letting us be help ers, and may we follow every day. ate HEAD TROUBLES A theological student once went to Dr. Hodge with his difficulties about’ the divinity of our Lord and Saviour. The doctor listened patiently, and then said, “ My dear young friend, your dif ficulties are of the head. If I should answer them, new ones would suggest themselves, i The best way to remove them, and guard yourself from future and similar troubles, is to have Christ within you. Learn His life; learn to trust in Him more, to love Him more; become identified with Him; and your doubts as to His divinity will disap pear.” The young student followed his advice; his doubts fied; and, on a sub sequent death bed, he bore his testi mony to the divinity of our Lord.
