OCTOBER 31, 1920 HEW DOWN THE CORRUPT TREE— WORLD’S TEMPERANCE SUNDAY. Golden Text: “ Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.” Mat. 7: 19.' LESSON TEXT * Mat. 7: 15-27. (Read Mat. 7: 13-29; Mat. 3: 1-12.)

(15) Beware of false- prophets, which come to you in sheeps’ clothing, but in wardly they are ravening wolves. (16) Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of this tles? (17) Even so every good tree bring eth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. (18) A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (19) Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (20) Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (22) Many will say to me in that day, _Lord, Lord, have we not prophe sied in thy name? and in thy name have TEACHERS, vs. 15-20. (2) WILL OF THE FATHER, vs. 21- 23. (3) WISE BUILDERS, vs. 24-27. (4) WORD. OF AUTHORITY, vs. 28- 29. Introduction. This' is the closing lesson of the won derful sermon. It will not be a ques tion of sufficient material, but a ques tion of selection in this lesson. The material is super- LESSON abundant. For the EXPOSITION teacher of the T. C. Horton lower grades, vs. 13-14 should be included. The theme of “ Choice” should be taken— the choice of gates and roads; then follows the choice of will and fruit and foundation. Eternal destinies may be wrapped up in the teaching of this lesson. Teach for eternity. No teacher should dare to attempt to handle this lesson with out first steeping it in prayer. You may have those in your classes who Outline. (1) WARNING AGAINST FALSE

(26) And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish bu' t £,s house upon the sand (27) And the ram descended, and the floods came and the winds blew, and beat upon ihe fa^? oSfeit.and 14 fell: and 8reat was have never made any confession. You may haVe unsaved church members. Now is the time to bring the truth clearly and forcefully to every heart. (1) WARNING AGAINST FALSE TEACHERS. ‘.‘Beware.” The warning follows the description of the two roads, and is significant. False prophets are to be expected who will give the wrong direction concern ing the right road. Wild animals have an instinct of danger; a breath of air, a human touch, poisonous grasses, are all scented and avoided. The instinct is cultivated until it is acute. So a cultivated spiritual instinct will make us wary of false teachers. The false follows the true, and is a proof of the true. A false coin is a testimony to the true coin. As it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual world. Every species brings forth after its kind. The fairest test of any teaching, is the fruit. The sweet-tempered, smooth- toned teacher may be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Some of the most dangerous men living today are men whose mouths are buttered with beautiful
