Your life cannot be true if your teaching is bad. You are what you believe.— People’s Bible. v. 19. Bringeth not forth good fruit. Mere lack of bad fruit does not save one.— Torrey. v. 20. By their fruits. You cannot always distinguish them by their bark and leaves nor the spreading of their boughs, but only by their fruits. Henry. v. 21. Not everyone. Teaching and active zeal for Christ is no guarantee for a holy life. You may be up in the-, ory but down in practice.—Horn. Com. He that doeth the will of God. The do­ ing of His will is a heart work, rooted in faith in Christ which is the begin­ ning of the doing in every case. "This is the work of God, that ye believe in Him whom He hath sent.”—Exp. Bible. Done many wonderful works. No amount of wonders performed will prove one who neither holds the doc­ trine nor manifests the Spirit of Christ, a teacher sent from God. Divine grace will bring a man to heaven without working miracles, but working miracles will never bring a man to heaven with­ out grace.— Sel. Christ does not accept even the work which appears mightiest unless it springs from heart obedience to Him.— Peloubet. God does some­ times for the sake of the flock, con­ descend to bless the work of evil shep­ herds whose lives are not openly scand­ alous, yet the best and surest work can­ not be done by such men.—Dummelow. v. 23. I never knew yon. A man may cast demons out of others and yet have a demon— nay, and be a demon himself. — Origen. They had just claimed intimacy with Christ, just what He repudiates and with a scornful dig­ nity. The acquaintance was not broken for there never had been any. (2 Tim. 2:19.)— Jamieson. v. 24. Whosoever heareth. Alas for many admirers of the Sermon on the Mount. Where will they he when every­ thing turns on the question, “Wert thou a doer of it?”— Gibson. The Sermon on the Mount closes with a warning to “ whosoever” and “ every one.” Are you among those who say “ whosoever” and “ every one” in this passage refers only to the Jews in another age? If so, can you consistently say “ whosoever” in Johh 3:16 embraces all?—K. B. This

doctrine contained in the Sermon on the Mount belongs to all men.— Blair. A grave responsibility fell on those who heard Christ’s sermon. The admonition is for all who read His word as much as for those who originally heard them. It is much needed for scarcely any part of Scripture has been mofe praised and less, obeyed.— Fraser. Matt. 7:20.- Approach.— If possible bring to class a small branch of tree with fruit attached*, peach or apple or any fruit with which, the children are familiar.
