Welcome Fellow Cattle Producers!!
Calving season is upon us. This season is exciting, stress- ful, exhausting, and rewarding all in the same breath. We have been blessed with a great season of good prices which makes all the work worthwhile. Even when the prices aren’t great, calving season is exciting. The season follows all the laws of creation as God intended, a new life is born. The natural process of birth and a mother caring for it’s young always gives us new hope: hope that it will improve, hope that it will rain, hope that it will be a good growing season, and hope that our Lord will provide for us. Fischer Simmentals began 25 years ago as a 4-H project for the kids. What started as a father’s dream, kids showing and growing cattle, turned into the sons’ dream of being a purebred breeder, selling high quality breeding stock. We have been sell- ing bulls via private treaty for 24 years. For the past 2 years we have had an auction at Stockmens Livestock and this will be the 3rd year there. We appreciate our customers for sticking with us through the transition and thank Stockmens for being a wonder- ful host. We are grateful. We artificially inseminate all 300+ cows. We focus heav- ily on growth and carcass traits while maintaining calving ease. We aim to have our bulls put more money in producers pockets and produce a higher quality end product. Our bulls are fed high forage rations to produce sound, long lived animals for your breeding program. Most of our bull buyers are repeat customers and say, “I can still recognize the bull in the fall which I purchased in the spring”. To all our past customers, thank you for your support through the years. We hope we can earn your trust as a reliable breeder. We invite you to come to the farm to preview the bulls and talk to our herdsman, Nick. We are thankful for another year of growth in our oper- ation. We have always felt that working on the farm together is a great way to bond as a family. We are very grateful that what started as 3 show calves turned into a viable business for us. We strive to be good stewards of all that God has entrusted to our family. We trust in God’s direction. We give Him all the honor and glory.
Sincerely, Bill & Cheryl Fischer and family
TERMS & CONDITIONS Announced changes to the catalog information on sale day take precedence over any printed material. All cattle sell under the terms and conditions of the American Sim- mental Association. We will provide the first breeding season, (90 days following turn out) guarantee on all bulls. This is not an insurance or mortality policy, but a guarantee on functional fertility. The buyer assumes all risks for injuries due to running bulls together and management decisions out of genetic control. Please contact us as soon as a condition is observed and before the bull is sold. We will do our best to correct any problems that may occur. LIABILITY All persons attending the sale and related functions do so at their own risk. Fischer Simmentals, the sale management and staff assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents or injuries that may occur. INSURANCE: For bulls staying with Fischer Simmentals after the sale, we are not responsible for death or injury. We highly recommend that you insure your bulls. Martin-Trudeau will availale to help insure your purchase on sale day. WATCH AND BID ONLINE We want to encourage farm visits, at your convenience, to see the bulls before sale day. We are offering $100 off sale day purchases to anyone who visits the farm. Cattle will be available to view at the Fischer Farm any time prior to the sale, please contact Nick, Bill or Nathan to make an appointment. DELIVERY Free delivery on animals to any one location within 300 mile radius if delivered by Fischer Simmentals. We will cooperate on deliveries outside that area. Day of sale re- ceive $100 credit on any bull hauled that day or within 1 week. We also offer the option to keep the bull free of charge until May 1st. ADG & FEED RATION The Average Daily Gain was calculated from a 100 day test. For a ration we strive to let the bulls show their growth potential, but not so much that they get overly fleshy. That way when you bring them back home in the fall, you still recognize them. Their ration consists of a mixture of hay, alfalfa, silage, earilage, distillers, and Riomax mineral. SEMEN INTEREST We will be retaining 1/4 semen revenue sharing interest in every bull on the sale. Full possession and salvage value sell on all bulls unless otherwise noted or announced sale day. Health Our vet work is done by Prairie View Ag Center. Big thanks to Randy for semen testing the bulls. Quick Reference to ASA EPD and $ Indexes Expected Progeny Differences (EPD): EPD are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPD, the difference between two sires’ EPD represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPD of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPD is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPD, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPD rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPD and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPD are expressed in:
Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
$ Indexes: Though EPD allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through wellconceived, rigor- ous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPD and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPD, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPD and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

RIOMAX. THE TUB THAT PAYS FOR ITSELF.
WHAT WE SEE CONSISTENTLY ACROSS NORTH AMERICA
15-30% FORAGE SAVINGS
HOW? Using our 19-component digestion package, Nutrizorb®, we feed the bugs in the rumen, so there’s more of them and they’re more active. Essentially, we’re squeezing more nutrients from every single mouthful. Your cows are satisfied with less feed. Furthermore, when the bugs die, they become true microbial protein, which is an additional protein source for the cow.
AVG. DAILY RIOMAX ® COST $136 ON 400 HEAD (Semi Load Pricing. Whole or Split-Shipped)
DAILY PROFIT $44 ON 400 HEAD
AVG. DAILY HAY SAVINGS $180 ON 400 HEAD (Saving 15% of $200/ton hay at 30 lb per day)
-
=
HERE'S THE MATH ON AN EXAMPLE 400 HEAD RANCH:
“ Over the winter I saved 7lbs of hay per head per day with Riomax®, so I was putting 5¢ a day in my pocket, after buying Riomax®, plus getting my mineral for free. ” - Cottonwood, ID
3-10% INCREASE IN CONCEPTION RATES
HOW? First off, our impact on reproductive performance is not just getting more cows breed, but also getting cows breed sooner. This means calves on the ground sooner and more days at mama’s side before weaning. At roughly 2 lbs per day this stacks up pretty quick. Secondly, better digestion for mama means higher milk fat. This has a direct correlation to the daily gain of your calves all summer long. HOW? Using Esqort®, our 100% protected copper, manganese, zinc, and selenium package, we get the key trace minerals to the cow’s bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream the minerals work to improve overall health, immune status and serve to boost reproductive performance. Additionally, Nutrizorb®, our digestion package, enables your cows get more nutrients, helping ensure they are on an inclining plane of nutrition to ensure they breed.
AVG. ADDED NUMBER OF CALVES 12 ON 400 HEAD (Improving conception by 3%)
ADDED REVENUE $9,643 FROM 12 MORE CALVES (Weaning 574 lb calves at $1.40/lb)
HERE'S THE MATH ON AN EXAMPLE 400 HEAD RANCH:
=
“ I pregged 500 cows and only had 12 open! 2 of those were free-martins, which I knew; so that is only 10 open out of 500!!! We’re usually happy with breed-up in the low 90s, it’s often in the high 80s, but we were blown away with 98% breed-up. ” - Hereford, TX
10-40LBS INCREASE IN WEANING WEIGHTS
AVG. INCREASE IN POUNDS AT WEANING 3,720 ON 372 CALVES (At +10 lbs per calf)
ADDED REVENUE $5,208 ON 372 CALVES (At $1.40/lb)
HERE'S THE MATH ON AN EXAMPLE 400 HEAD RANCH:
=
“ Calves came off 30 lb heavier than normal... and I’m contributing a lot of this to the mineral program... steers were 638 coming out of the “Big Hole” [Montana] and normally we’re at 600 lb on the steers... and the buyer said they were the most uniform bunch ” - Alder, MT
IMPROVED OVERALL HERD HEALTH
HOW? As mentioned earlier, 100% protected key trace minerals means they’re doing their job. Minerals that get into the bloodstream equate to improved immune function for your herd. With proper mineral supplementation, your herd can fight sickness from the inside out.
A MONTANA RANCHER WITH 475 HEAD DOLLARIZED IT LIKE THIS:
- Eliminated Pour On: $1,000 - Eliminated Extra Coccidiosis Prevention: $1.42/HEAD X 250 HEAD= $355 - Reduce Labor Cost: $5,000 (reduced time putting out tubs, mineral, and hay that is now saved) - Reduce Vehicle Maintenance/Fuel Cost: $2,000 TOTAL SAVINGS: $8,355

N38 gave us our cover photo for our catalog, so i thought that earned him the right to be lot 1. If you take a look at his numbers and ind him in the pen, he will be a favorite come sale day. With the top marbling EPD in the sale and being in the top 10% for WW, YW, REA, and a rate of gain of 4.1, N38 is ready to make some top of the line feeder calves! Our first Fireball heifers calved this year and they look great, and we love our Nobility daughters, like his mom, so hopefully he can make some nice black baldy replacement heifers!

N28 comes out of a heifer and she decided she wanted to make a name for herself right away! N28 was the 6th highest ADJ WW and the top ADJ yearling weight along with the highest rate if gain at 4.6lbs a day. N28 decided that wasn’t good enough yet, so he decided to scan the 7th biggest REA at almost 16 inches and 2nd highest in marbling. It doesn’t matter if you are looking at him in the pen or on paper, N28 is the type of bull you can build a herd around!

At pasture turn out last year I told dad this guy was his lead off bull of next years sale and he didn’t fail me, he is in the top 3, depending on what you are looking for will determine your order. If you are looking to add length of body and growth to your calves, N33 is your guy. In the top 1-2% of the breed for 4 EPD’s and top 10% for another 4, it is hard to find bulls like these. His mother had the second bull in the ring in our sale 2 years ago, and had one of our nicest bred heifers that calved this year, so far H108 has not missed. Another candidate to build a herd around.

As we move on to the Honor, we start off with maybe the best heifer bull prospect on paper that we have this year. Out of a heifer, starting out at 63lbs, ratio of 79, and then having a weaning at 734, ratio of 117. That is the definition of a spread bull, and then having 11 EPD’s in the top 15% of the breed, N22 can truly do it all. His mother goes all the way back to one of our first cows, and the family has been having some of the best calves since the start.

N18 does have scurrs, but don’t let that scare you away from him, if it wasn’t for those scurrs he would be fighting for top spot in the bull sale. With the a top 10 weaning weight and the 3rd highest yearling weight, N18 just grew! This blaze face will catch your eye when you are walking through the pens.
