CIPP update

CIPP matches employee charity donations

The CIPP launches live chat HERE AT the CIPP, we are consistently innovating how we do things to make contacting us easier for our customers and members. We recently launched a live chat function as part of the CIPP website, making it easier for you to enquire about training courses, qualifications, membership, events etc – and it has immediately taken off and has been very popular. Since then, we took the leap and expanded this functionality to allow members to speak directly to our Advisory Service through the live chat. If you are a fully paid member, why not try out this member benefit in a quicker, easier way. When speaking to the Advisory Service, please include your membership number in your message. Try out the live chat today www.cipp.org.uk and see how we can help you.

DURING 2017, the CIPP supported Acorns Children’s Hospice and Cancer Research UK as our employee-voted charities. Donations have been collected throughout the year through employee activities such as: cake sales, an Easter raffle, a superhero fancy-dress day, a sponsored country walk, summer sizzler – BBQ, raffle, tombola. At the end of the year, the CIPP agreed to support the employees’ chosen charities by matching donations raised. Pictured are Ken Pullar FCIPP, chief executive officer (CEO), and members of the charity committee with cheques to present to Acorns Children’s Hospice and Cancer Research UK. Ken commented: “It was important to the CIPP to match donations raised by employees as part of our employee engagement strategy, and as part of our corporate social responsibility. The amounts raised were through employee activities throughout the year, excluding any funds donated by employees through payroll giving.”

CIPP accredited as Living Wage employer THE INSTITUTE’S Living Wage commitment will see everyone who works for the organisation, regardless of whether they are direct employees or third-party contracted staff, receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.75 in the UK or £10.20 in London. Both rates are significantly higher than the statutory minimum for over-25s of £7.50 per hour introduced in April 2017. The real Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, calculated according to the real costs of living. Ken Pullar FCIPP, CIPP’s CEO, commented; “As the industry body for payroll in the UK, the CIPP encourages all of our members to pay the ‘real’ Living Wage and therefore wanted to demonstrate that we are equally committed to ensuring all of our employees are paid fairly. This is an excellent initiative which the CIPP is proud to support.” Employers voluntarily choose to pay the real Living Wage, which enjoys cross-party political support. Katherine Chapman, director at the Living Wage Foundation, said: “We welcome the CIPP to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer. We are a movement of over 3,700 UK employers who together want to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. These businesses recognise that the Living Wage accreditation is the mark of a responsible employer and they… too believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”
