Y12 Bulletin 14.02.25

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome parents and carers of our Year 12 students to discuss the UCAS process. Mr Bannister, Head of Sixth Form, talked through the benefits and downsides of going to university, the components of the UCAS application, course and university choices, personal state- ments, staff references, predicted grades and the process we follow with regards to them. He also touched on additional requirements for some courses, such as interviews and admissions tests, the support we offer as a school, as well as the key dates in relation to this process. Please get in touch with myself or Mr Bannister via sixthform@waldegravesch.org if you have any further questions following this presentation. On Tuesday 25th February, we look forward to welcoming back the parents and carers of the students who are contemplating applying to Oxbridge. More details have already been shared. Well done to all Year 12 students for successfully completing yet another half-term. They all need to ensure they take some time to rest over the course of next week, as well as ensure they do some work ahead of their forthcoming end of Year exams. On Monday 24th February, students aren’t expected in school, as it is a staff INSET day. I would recom- mend using this time to go over content they have already covered and to practise exam questions under timed conditions given how close we are to mock exams.

Enjoy your health-term break!

MR STAVROU, HEAD OF YEAR 12

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘Hag-seed’ - Margaret Atwood A marvellous retelling of the infamous Shakespearian play ‘The Tempest’. The story is weaved into the life of troubled, grieving Felix, theatre director, as he is exiled out of his town by his closest friends. He tries to avenge those who betrayed him and come to terms with the loss of his daughter as he directs ‘The Tempest’ with inmates as the actors as part of his new job. Atwood’s clear intelligence in Shakespeare’s work along with her unique, compelling writing style makes this book perfect for people who are interested yet perhaps intimidated by the complexity of Shakespeare.
