Standing by Our Clients Through Legal Battles and Rebuilding A YEAR OF SERVICE
Can you believe it? 2024 is winding down. As we get ready to close out the year, it’s time to reflect on the journey we’ve been on together. It’s been a busy, eventful, and, at times, challenging year, but one thing remains constant: Our gratitude for being able to serve and support the members of our community. Whether it’s helping families through custody battles, guiding people through the difficult process of divorce, or representing those injured in auto and work accidents, we are fortunate to play a role in helping people find resolution and regain stability in their lives. We are honored to represent our community and make a difference where we can. We’ve had the opportunity to stand by so many individuals and families and advocate for them. We strive to help people find peace of mind during what is often one of the most challenging times in their lives. From navigating complex custody cases to fighting for fair compensation after an injury, we approach each case with the care and professionalism our clients deserve. However, as we reflect on all the successes and victories, we can’t overlook the challenges our community has faced, especially toward the end of the year. Hurricane Helene was a tough reminder of how fragile our society and lives can be. The devastation it left behind was heart-wrenching, and many of our neighbors experienced significant losses. Homes, lives, and businesses were impacted in ways that will take time to rebuild. But amid that devastation, we observed the strength of our community.
Watching everyone come together to help one another has been a huge reminder of what makes this community so special. Neighbors lending a hand, businesses assisting in every way possible, and families offering support — moments like these remind us of the resilience that runs through our community. While the effects of Hurricane Helene were tough, the way our community has come together to rebuild has been inspiring. As we look forward to a brand-new year, let’s be mindful of how unpredictable life can be. We may not always know what’s around the corner, but we do know that with the support of those around us, we can weather any storm — literally and figuratively. If this year has taught us anything, it’s the importance of staying connected, lending a hand where possible, and being grateful for the moments of stability and joy coming our way. With the holiday season upon us, we feel fortunate to serve this community and be a part of your lives. Whether we helped you through a legal matter or crossed paths in the day-to-day hustle and bustle, we are grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us. With 2025 on the horizon, we want to take a moment to wish you all a happy holiday season. May it be filled with warmth, love, and laughter. Take time to enjoy your family and friends, cherish the small moments, and look forward to what the new year has in store.

How to Turn Reluctance Into Responsibility Teens and Chores
days” and how parenting used to be, but we should remember that child-rearing has come a long way since the old days. For example, when Aztec children refused to do their chores, their parents would hold them over smoking chilies, resulting in eye- watering, skin-irritating torment — basically the Mesoamerican equivalent of pepper spraying kids in the face. The further we can get from that standard of parenting, the better. So, here are two tips to help convince your teens to chip in around the house — no peppers needed. Frame it differently. Sometimes, all you need is a change in perspective. Rather than simply stating that things need to get done — “Because I said so!” — it can help to pitch chores as ways your teens can help around the house. Talk about everything that needs to be done to
contribute to a healthy, happy home. There’s grocery shopping, feeding the dog, doing the laundry, maintaining the ever-growing collection of succulents, you name it. This will give them more perspective into how much their parents currently take on. Then, break down which responsibilities they’ll be assigned to complete and how often you expect them to do each task. Good work deserves a reward. Chore money has always been a great incentive to encourage teens to do their part around the home. These days, there are even apps, like BusyKid, that assign a monetary value to different chores around the house. This doesn’t mean you have to break the bank, but teaching your kids that hard work pays off can motivate them to accomplish more around the home.
No one loved doing household chores growing up, but chores are great for building character and work ethic. If we shirk our responsibilities, we inevitably turn into vegetables — couch potatoes. No doubt, convincing your teenagers of the value of hard work and the importance of doing their chores can be trying at times. Sure, many grumble about “kids these

TURNING TRAUMA INTO TRIUMPH
Kristen’s Story of Finding Legal Support After a Crash
Kristen’s story began when she was hit by a drunk driver in Greenville — a jarring experience but, fortunately, not a severe crash. She found our firm on Google and reached out, curious if a South Carolina car accident attorney could help her get a fair settlement. My team provided her with valuable resources, including a free copy of my book on handling car accident cases in South Carolina, so she scheduled a free consultation and hired us right away. She hadn’t realized just how much expertise would be needed to get the best possible outcome, but I assured her we’d handle it. The Accident On Sept. 19, 2023, Kristen was on her way to work when she stopped at a red light on Poinsett Highway. Suddenly, a car slammed into her from behind at 35 mph, forcing her vehicle into the car in front of her. When police arrived, they found the other driver was intoxicated and immediately arrested her for DUI. Kristen’s injuries were thankfully mild; she was diagnosed with whiplash and underwent six weeks of chiropractic treatment, incurring $5,275 in medical bills and $800 in lost wages. Why the DUI Changed Everything In a typical case, I might have advised Kristen to settle her claim independently, but the DUI opened the door for a potential settlement that included punitive damages. Knowing the insurance
company would likely resist without a seasoned attorney involved, I saw a chance to secure Kristen the full value she deserved. Insurance adjusters know experienced attorneys can argue for punitive damages effectively, especially when they see a case that could succeed at trial. Going the Extra Mile The first step was obtaining the DUI police report, but I didn’t stop there. We found out this wasn’t the at-fault driver’s first DUI — she’d been charged less than a year prior, with disturbing details about her impairment. I gathered all this evidence, including Kristen’s medical expenses and a description of her personal suffering, to make a powerful demand on the insurance adjuster. The Outcome As a result, the insurance company’s lawyer agreed to pay the driver’s liability limit of $50,000. Kristen was thrilled to receive a settlement she never expected, just in time for the holidays.

A Purr-fect Match How a Kitten Helped Samson Unleash His Inner Pup
Golden retriever Samson takes his job as a medical service response dog very seriously, maybe even too seriously. For owner Lea Hendy, it became apparent quickly that the loveable giant didn’t know how to dog. On their days off at the dog park, Samson was the odd man out, sitting alone in the corner while the other pups played. It seemed like he couldn’t turn off work mode or form bonds with other dogs. Samson joined Lea’s family to train as a service dog. When she noticed his seeming lack of social skills with other dogs, she was determined to find a way to bring him out of his shell. Little did she know that a chance encounter with a cat would change everything.
and immediately wanted to play. It was an “aha!” moment that Samson could indeed make deep bonds; it just had to be with the right animal. A couple of months later, they brought home a tiny kitten named Cleo, and the instant friendship surprised everyone. They gently placed the backpack with the little kitten inside in the middle of the room, and Samson immediately sprung into excited barks and tail wags. Lea said they were never expecting him to be so excited about his new friend, and the two have been inseparable since. “It was so heartwarming to see him come out of his shell and immediately form a connection with Cleo,” Lea said.
other’s company. Cleo has become an avid adventurer since the family started taking her on hikes. When the kitty tires out, she takes a ride on her older brother Samson, who looks so proud to be transporting his sister. Cleo, a tiny kitten with a big heart, allowed Samson, a workaholic looking for a friend, to break out of his shell and explore his world in ways his family never thought possible. Now, thousands of people worldwide watch their friendship and adventures on the animal-odd couple’s Instagram page @calvin.andco.
