Dear Friends of GAMAC, As president of GAMAC, it is my pleasure to welcome you to an exciting new season of music! This year, we are thrilled to offer a rich array of musical experiences that will inspire, engage, and bring our community together. Our 2024-2025 Concert Season kicks off this fall with Songs of the Sea performed by the GAMAC Chorale and A Serenade to Music by the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. In September, we hosted a lively Jazz Club performance, and in February, we invite you and your Valentine to join us for our annual Beach Ball, a night of music and festivity not to be missed! As we look forward to celebrating the holiday season, we are delighted to present Merry Christmas, Anderson! This annual Christmas celebration has been a cherished tradition and wonderful way to embrace the spirit of the season together for 33 years. We are also proud to announce two incredible partnerships. Through Healing Notes , in collaboration with the AnMed Health Foundation, our talented musicians enhance health and well-being using music to create a calming environment for patients in healthcare settings. Additionally, our partnership with the Anderson County Library allows us to present Sonic Lunch , a free lunchtime mini-concert series featuring local and regional musicians. Our education initiative, Rhythm Reads , will continue in our schools and libraries to engage elementary students as musicians and storytellers bring children’s books to life, creating memorable, interactive experiences for our youngest audience members. On behalf of everyone at GAMAC, I want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support. Because of you, the musical performing arts continue to enrich life in our community. Our Mission & Vision GAMAC is an organization committed to providing the very best in community musical performing arts and education. From the professional community artist and the talented avocational artist, to the gifted and talented youth of our area, GAMAC seeks to develop their talents and showcase them for the public. GAMAC’s concert events and outreach programs provide high quality cultural experiences for the community and a forum for excellence for our performers, enriching the quality of life in the Anderson area.

GAMAC History
Founded in 1990 and incorporated in April, 1991, the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium’s roots stretch back to September 1921 when the Anderson Music Club was organized at Bleckley Place, the home of Mrs. Fred Maxwell just one year after the founding of the South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs. From that time forward, the Anderson Music Club worked to promote the musical arts in the Anderson community. As early as 1922 the AMC played a pivotal role in music education, providing music scholarships to talented young musicians wishing to pursue studies at the Furman Music Camp and Brevard Music Center. Additional work included sponsorship of a local piano ensemble and the presentation of concerts at the Anderson Recreational Center. Forming the Anderson Civic Chorale in 1970, the AMC contributed annual financial support to the flourishing ensemble. In the early 1990s interested citizens began to plan for the expansion of the musical arts in the Anderson area. The vision of forming one organization as an umbrella for several musical groups was born. The Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (GAMAC) received its Certificate of Incorporation from the State of South Carolina on April 8, 1991. Under the new incorporation, reorganization and expansion the Anderson Civic Chorale became the cornerstone of the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium. The following years have seen the expansion of GAMAC to include the Chorale, Chamber Orchestra, Anderson Symphony Orchestra, Children’s Chorus, and the Electric City Big Band. Now in its 33rd season, GAMAC presents up to 10 concerts annually in addition to a variety of education and outreach efforts that entertain, educate, and enrich lives in the Upstate. Thanks to the outstanding leadership of its Board of Directors and the loyal support of its contributors and sponsors, GAMAC is a thriving cultural institution that looks forward to continued growth. GAMAC is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Concert Notes
Applause Applause for the concertmaster is appropriate when he or she enters to prepare the orchestra for the concert. The conductor and guest soloists are always applauded when they walk out on stage. Clapping stops as soon as the conductor steps onto the podium and raises the baton. Applause for the music is held until the end of the entire work, refraining from applause between movements. Occasionally, when a concert program consists of many shorter pieces, the audience should applaud as it deems appropriate. Silence Since a concert is both auditory and visual entertainment, silence in the audience is of utmost importance. In addition to not talking during the performance, please refrain from any unnecessary noise and movement. Please try to be sensitive at all times to the rights of others seated around you. Movement If you arrive after the concert has begun, do not enter until there is a break in the program such as the end of a movement or a work. The ushers are trained to assist you at the door. Once in the hall, please refrain from movement unless it is an emergency, and if possible, wait until the end of a selection or movement. If you must leave during a movement, you will be asked to wait until an appropriate break to re-enter the hall.

Ticket Policy
Ticket Information Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card, checks and cash are accepted for ticket purchases. Advance payment is mandatory for all reservations. Tax Deductible Contributions Tickets for GAMAC performances that you are unable to use may be donated to the GAMAC annual fund as a tax-deductible contribution. Tax incentive letters will be mailed annually in December. Please mail tickets to the GAMAC office or call the office at (864) 231-6147 at least 24 hours prior to the performance to “Recycle Your Seats.” Will Call All ticket orders received less than 10 days prior to a performance will be held at the Will Call which opens one hour prior to curtain. Identification must be presented when calling for tickets. Block tickets must be picked up and distributed by purchaser. Refunds Refunds are given only in the case of event cancellation. Children’s Tickets Children are welcome to attend all GAMAC events. As a courtesy to other patrons, please bear in mind that small children may disrupt the silence which is prerequisite for full enjoyment of the performance. Children’s tickets must be purchased, regardless of age. Babies in arms are not permitted. Special Seating Special seating for patrons with disabilities is available upon purchase of tickets. Ushers are available during every performance should you require assistance.

Don R. Campbell Conductor, GAMAC Chorale
Central Region Honor Choirs. His choirs have performed at conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference. He is the founder and host of five festivals for local school and church choirs at Southern Wesleyan University: Upstate Intercollegiate Choral Invitational Festival for college choirs, SWUFest for high school choirs (which has grown so much in popularity that it has had to be split into two different days, SWUFest Too for middle school choirs, and Musica Ecclesia for church choirs. In addition to the many eclectic programs he has directed in his forty-six years of work, he has conducted choral/orchestral works including Giuseppi Verdi’s Requiem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, F.J. Haydn’s Harmoniemesse, Creation Mass, and Lord Nelson Mass, Howard Hanson’s Song of Democracy, Beethoven’s, Mass in C major and the choral movement of the Ninth Symphony, Haydn’s Te Deum, Brahms’ Schicksalslied and an orchestrated version of the Liebeslieder Waltzer, Cherubini’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ A German Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, Rutter’s Requiem and Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Schubert’s Masses in G and B flat and Schubert’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art, Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom and Frostiana, G.P. Pergolesi’s Magnificat and P.D.Q Bach’s The Seasonings. He has had post-doctoral coaching in orchestral conducting as a Conducting Fellow at the Conductors Institute of South Carolina with Donald Portnoy, Paul Vermel, Peter Jaffe, Maurice Peress, Manuel Alvarez, Victoria Bond, Samuel Jones, and John Fitz Rogers. Dr. Campbell is currently the conductor of the Chorale of the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (GAMAC), a fine civic chorale in Anderson, South Carolina. As a barbershopper, he has directed Visalia, California’s Mighty Oak Chorus, Hanford, California’s Kingsmen Chorus, and
Don Campbell is Professor Emeritus of Music, former Director of Choral Activities after 25 years there, and former Music Department Coordinator at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South
Carolina. Prior to his appointment to SWU in 1998, he taught high school vocal music for 21 years—20 of those years at Redwood High School in Visalia, California—building the program to 300 students in five choirs. Dr. Campbell received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from California State University, Fullerton, his Master of Arts degree in choral conducting from California State University, Fresno, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from Arizona State University. His mentors include David Thorsen, Howard Swan, John Cooksey, Greg Lyne, David Stocker, and many others. His teaching experience includes choral and instrumental conducting, vocal pedagogy, voice instruction for middle school voices through senior voices, music theory, music history, elementary and secondary music education. In demand as a choral clinician, Dr. Campbell has traveled to seventeen states as well as Scotland, The Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, and British Columbia and Ontario, Canada to conduct choirs and festival choruses and present choral clinics. He has conducting students in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Italy, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. Every year he conducts the South Carolina Music Educators Association’s Western Region Honor Choir and for many years also conducted the Upper Region and

Spartanburg, South Carolina’s Palmetto Statesmen Chorus and has been on the international faculty of Harmony University for the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) for twenty-six years and was the Dean of the Directors College of BHS’s Harmony University from 2015 to 2024. He is also a member of American Choral Directors Association, South Carolina American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Barbershop Harmony Society, and a career- long member of Music Educators National Conference. His other affiliations are with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (Professional Music Fraternity), Phi Kappa Phi (Honorary Scholastic Society), and Pi Kappa Lambda (Honorary Music Scholastic Society). As a church musician, Dr. Campbell has directed music at several churches in California and South Carolina including his current position as Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church (TUMC) in Anderson, South Carolina. He has also had lead roles in community theatre productions of Man of La Mancha and Fiddler on the Roof. He is recipient of the first Ken Dickens Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2003 at Southern Wesleyan University and SWU’s Faculty Member of the Year for 2003-4. Additional honors include having been president of the South Carolina American Choral Directors Association, being named Dean of the Directing College of Harmony University, posting a conducting video on YouTube called “Directors Stop Talking,” and contributing to the book, Visions of Excellence: A Dialog with the Finest Directors from the Barbershop Harmony Society. In his “re-tread-ment,” Dr. Campbell will continue to serve the cause of choral music and music education through his work with the GAMAC Chorale, BHS, TUMC, school and festival choirs, and private lessons in conducting and voice. 1975, Karen, who sings soprano in the Chorale. Andrew Pettus Conductor, Anderson Symphony Orchestra Dr. Andrew Pettus is originally from Florence, AL. He received two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of mathematics, a Master of Music degree from the University of Miami in music education with emphasis in conducting under Professor Gary Green, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota in conducting under Professor Craig Kirchhoff. During his time at the University of Alabama, he Alabama in music education and pure served as drum major of the Million Dollar Marching Band for four years while arranging and writing drill for the band as well. Dr. Pettus was the Director of Bands at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, AL for six years during which his bands performed at the Alabama Music Educators' Conference, the Music for All National Concert Festival in Indianapolis, IN, the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL, the CBDNA & NBA Southern Division Conference in Oxford, MS, and a 2-week tour of China by invitation through the US-China Cultural Exchange. Also during his time in Tuscaloosa, he served as the Director of the Tuscaloosa Youth Orchestra and the Orchestra Director of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa. Dr. Pettus currently resides in Anderson, SC where he holds the position of Director of Instrumental Music at the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University. He also serves as the conductor of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. When not involved in some musical activity, Dr. Pettus is an avid tennis player. He is married to his amazing wife, Ashli and has an 8-year

player in various venues. Some notables he's had an opportunity to perform with include Sandi Patti, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Chris Vadala, Jon Faddis, the Sammy Kaye Band, The Guy Lombardo Orchestra and The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. But his greatest gig has been his family. He met his wife Bonnie in 1983. They were married in Anderson in 1986, and have four outstanding children, Brandi, Kacie, Nathan and Nicholas. A native of Anderson, Alan graduated from Westside High School, then received his A.A. degree in Musical Performance from Anderson College in 1976. He continued his education at Newberry College where he studied
recently retired as Professor of Music Emerita after a thirty six-year career at Southern Wesleyan University. She served as Chair of the Fine Arts Division for twenty seven of those
clarinet with Dr. John Wagner and graduated Cum Laude in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He received a masters degree in Music Education from Anderson University in 2013. After graduation he auditioned for the musical touring group The Spurrlows, performing in shows throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia and South America. Following a four year road stint with The Spurrlows, Alan soon went back out on the road with the contemporary Christian group Truth, again traveling the US and to Brazil for World Vision. Eventually the Truth connection led him to work as a studio musician in Lynchburg, Va. for Dr. Jerry Falwell and the Liberty Broadcasting Network, along with Thomas Road Baptist Church ministries, The Old Time Gospel Hour and Liberty University. In 1989 he returned to Anderson to accept a position teaching band at McCants Middle School and assisted at TL Hanna High School for twenty years. While at McCants, the band won several Outstanding Performance Achievement Awards in addition to placing students in Region and All-State bands on a regular basis. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Anderson University and Southern Wesleyan University teaching woodwinds. In addition to teaching, Alan still enjoys performing as a clarinetist with the GAMAC Orchestra as well as a free lance

During her tenure as chair, the division received accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music, and the Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center became the new home for the division. Mrs. Dill received her Associate of Arts degree from Anderson University, the Bachelor of Music degree from Mars Hill College, and the Master of Fine Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Georgia. Some of her piano teachers include Despy Karlas and Martha Thomas at the University of Georgia and the late Max Camp from the University of South Carolina. She studied organ with Donna Robertson at Mars Hill College. Professor Dill has a broad keyboard background in accompanying as well as solo playing. She has served as organist at several churches including First United Methodist Church in Athens, Georgia; Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina; Briarcliff United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia; and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson,

South Carolina. She currently serves as organist at First Baptist Church, Clemson. She was the rehearsal accompanist for the Augusta Regional Opera Company from 1976-1980, and has played for numerous vocal recitals. Choral accompanying has been a highlight of Professor Dill’s career. She has accompanied all-state and regional high school and collegiate groups as well as community groups in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Professor Dill currently serves as accompanist for the GAMAC Chorale and Concert of Hope Choir in Anderson, South Carolina. Dana Orchoff Gencarelli Executive Director A South Carolina native, Dana joined the GAMAC staff as executive director in 2007. Prior to coming to Anderson, she served as the Executive Director of The Music Foundation of Spartanburg from 2002-2007, having previously served the organization as the Director of Operations for the Spartanburg Philharmonic from 1995-2002. Dana received a BA in Arts Administration with a concentration in both marketing and technical theater production from the Shuford School of Performing Arts at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Her early work in the performing arts was in professional theatre and included work with the Old Schoolhouse Theatre (Sanibel Island, Fl), the former Blowing Rock Stage Company (Blowing Rock, NC), and Central Piedmont Summer Theatre (Charlotte, NC). She is a former member of the Actor’s Equity Association for stage management. In addition to her work with GAMAC, Dana serves as acting president of the South Carolina Arts Alliance, a state-wide assembly of arts administrators and educators with a mission to advance and promote the arts through advocacy, leadership development, and public awareness. She is a member of the
Kiwanis Club of Anderson and is proud to have served as club president from 2017- 2018. She and her husband Brian, a professional double bassist and strings teacher with Spartanburg School District 5, make their home in Simpsonville, SC. Stephanie Clark GAMAC Director of Operations Stephanie Clark has been a resident of South Carolina since 1983. She is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University (AR) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education and Northwestern State University (LA) with an M.A. and M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling for high school and college/university students. Stephanie worked at Clemson University for 16 years before joining GAMAC in October 2005. Stephanie began playing flute in the 6th grade, was a member of the Arkansas All-State Band for two years, and performed with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra from 1989 to 1994.
