Learning objectives:
40) The participants can explain the risks posed by using a cervical collar covering the following (Knowledge, intermediate level):
a. increased i ntracranial pressure
b. compromised airway
41) The participants can recognise and discuss the measures needed to mitigate the risks posed to an unconscious injured person who is wearing a cervical collar (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
a.
intracranial pressure increase
b.
airway management
a.
the injured person is unconscious, and
b. it is not possible to support the head and / or maintain the airway by other means during the extraction of an unconscious injured person from an enclosed space, and
c. that the cervical collar shall only be used for the minimum amount of time required to extract the unconscious injured person from an enclosed space
a. correct sizing and fitting of the collar, according to the manufacturer instructions
