A NOTE FROM SYLVIA As we head into deep summer, I am reminded of the profound sense of community and patriotism that Independence Day evokes. It’s a time to come together with family and friends, reflecting on our nation's history and looking forward to its future. At Twin Cities PBS, we have a wonderful lineup of programming to enhance your 4 th of July commemoration and provide entertainment for the entire month. We are thrilled to present A Capitol Fourth 2024 , the 44th annual edition of America's longest-running live national Independence Day TV tradition. Broadcast from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, this year’s celebration gives you a front row seat to our country’s biggest birthday party. Join us on July 4 at 7 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. on TPT 2 for performances by top stars from pop, country, R&B, classical, and Broadway, all accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the premier pops conductor Jack Everly. Additionally, we are excited to bring you The Empire Builder: James J. Hill and the Great Northern Railway , a four-part documentary series that delves into the compelling story of one of America’s most influential industrialists. Known as "The Empire Builder" and "The Devil's Curse," James J. Hill’s legacy is both celebrated and controversial. This series, which will explore the complexities of his life and the vast impact of the Great Northern Railway, premieres on July 12 at 8 p.m. on TPT 2. With the Summer Olympics beginning later this month in Paris, we turn our attention to another athletic spectacle with Gods of Tennis , a three-part series that explores the golden era of tennis when legendary players excelled and reshaped societal perspectives on – and off – the court. Starting on July 23 at 8 p.m. on TPT 2, the series features classic footage and interviews with tennis greats such as Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert. As always, none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our members. Your commitment to our mission allows us to bring these rich stories to life.
