The King is back and has one last ace up his sleeve. T yson Fury is the self-proclaimed Gypsy King. Over the course of his career, he has held every major heavyweight title, worn the crown, relinquished it, reclaimed it and defended it. However, heavyweight boxing is less a monarchy than a card table – and Fury has always understood when to play his strongest hand. As with many tales of royal complexity, from King Arthur to King Lear, Fury’s career can be divided into a clear narrative arc. In the beginning, he slayed all in his path, culminating in an underdog victory over long-reigning unified champion Wladimir Klitschko in Germany in 2015. The second act saw Fury battle back from depression and a prolonged absence to reclaim world champion status, dethroning the feared and decorated Deontay Wilder in 2020 to win – and subsequently defend – the Ring and WBC heavyweight titles. From there, he traveled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2024, chasing undisputed glory by attempting to unify the heavyweight crown against the Ukrainian master, Oleksandr Usyk. All lofty goals; all logical and daring pursuits.
